Among the local teachers to be inducted into the Federation of Women Teachers’ Associations of Ontario [FWTAO] at the Huron Women Teachers’ Association’s annual banquet In Brussels on October 26 were [front, from left] Elizabeth Thorpe and Bernice Gross, both at East Wawanosh Public School; while Mary Douma [back], a new teacher at Brussels Public School but already a member of the Federation, was welcomed to the Huron County Board of Education. 1 v a'.WIB. gW’l iii 1 AIlf r t New teachers inducted Elizabeth Thorpe and Bernice Gross, both new teachers this y ear at East Wawanosh Public School, were among the 17 teachers inducted into the Federation of Women Teachers’ Associations of Ontario (FWTAO) at the Huron Women Teachers’ Asso­ ciation (HWTA) annual Fall Ban­ quet at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre on October 26. In addition, Mary Douma, a new teacher at Brussels Public School but already an FWTAO member, was welcomed to the Huron County Board of Education by Flo Keillor of Huron Centennial School, HWTA president. Walton Public School’s Louise Wilson was among the seven HCBE teachers to be honoured with the prese-ntation of a pin marking 25 years of service in the Federation; while Freda Crawford, formerly of Grey Central Public School, was among the seven teachers to oe honoured upon their retirement from teaching last June. However, neither woman was able to be present, and both will receive their awards at a later date. The keynote speaker of the evening was Helen Penfold, provin­ cial president of the FWTO, w ho is a well-known speaker and was an active administrator at an elemen­ tary school in Grey County prior to assuming the presidency of the Association in September, 1988. Eva Brophey, principal of Lucan Public School and provincial director of Region 1 of the FWTAO, inducted the new teachers; while Mrs. Keillor presented the awards to the retiring teachers and to the 25-year veterans. Head table guests included Phil Parsons, president of the Ontario Public School Teachers’ Federation - Huron; Nancy McLay, president of the Ontario Secondary School Tea­ chers’ Federation, District 45; Georgina Reynolds, first vice-presi­ dent of the HWTA; Marry Moffatt, past-president of the HWTA; Gino Giannandrea, superintendent of personnel, Huron County Board of Education; Bea Dawson, trustee and chairman ofthe HCBE Personnel Committee; and Mrs. Brophey, Mrs. Keillor and Ms. Penfold. The Fall Banquet is the highlight of the year for the 270 HWTA members in the county. Wingham gets grant for sewers The Town of Wingham has received $46,053 as the first pay­ ment for an engineering study, Jack Riddell, MPP for Huron, announced last week. The engineering study will assess the proposed expansion and im­ provements to the sanitary sewage works in Wingham, said Mr. Riddell, who made the announce­ ments on behalf of Environment Minister Jim Bradley. Bonnie Lamble with pianist Marion Godkin. Baptized were Carmen Leanne, daughter of Gord and Janice Carno- chan; Adam Fred, son of Fred and Heidi McClure; Andrew James, son of Jim and Linda McDonald. Graeme Craig assisted with the lighting of candles.
