Crusaders begin title
defence Friday
Mark Shepherd [right] makes a valiant last minute try to beat a competitor across the finish line during the
central Huron elementary cross country meet at Londesboro. Mark’s effort helped his Hullett Central
Junior boys team to win Its division. Hullett was edged out by Huron Centennial for the overall
1 earns from the North Huron Elementary School Soccer League met at Grey Central School on October 20
for a full day of games Involving both boys and girls from Grey, Brussels, East Wawanosh, Wingham,
Howick and Turnberry Public Schools. Above, a Grey Central player bounces an unorthodox kick off a
Brussels boy; Grey Central won this game by a score of 2-0.

Correction
In a story about the campaign to
raise money for playground equip
ment in Ethel last week one of the
donations was attributed to the
wrong group. It was the Brussels
Legion that donated $200. The
Citizen apologizes for the error.
On Friday, Oct. 28 the Brussels
Crusaders begin their defence of
their W.O.A.A. Intermediate
crown when they open the regular
season against the Milverton 4
Wheel Drive. After the game a
“Meet the Player” social will be
held in the upstairs lounge.
The nucleus of last year’s
championship team is returning.
The goalie tandem of Mike and Ron
Smith will again protect the pipes
for the Crusaders. The high
scoring line of Dave Montgomery,
Troy Pocaluyko and Brian Ten Pas
has reunited. Ken Cousins and
Dave Stephenson will again play on
the same line, however, it looks as
if they will have a new right winger
as Kevin Deitner will move to
centre on another line.
Other returning forwards in
clude: Hugh Hanly, Rob Cardiff
and Randy Clarke. The new
additions up front are ex-Bull
Kevin McArter, Brian Deitner,
Darrin Watts and Kent Howatt.
The defense should be strong
again this year with the return of
veterans Mike Watson, Paul Mont
gomery, Ken Higgins, Trevor
Pocaluyko and Len Stamper. The
new addition on the blueline will be
ex-Wingham Ironmen Rob Willis.
The Crusaders will play in the
Southern Division of the W. O. A. A.
Intermediate league. Their oppo
nents will come from Arthur,
Drayton, Milverton, Monkton,
Seaforth and Wellesley.
This past Sunday the Crusaders
played an exhibition game against
Ripley, the defending Interme
diate “D” Champs. The Crusaders
rolledtoarelatively easy 10to4
victory.
In the first period the Crusaders
jumped into a 4 to 1 lead on goals by
Brian Deitner, Ken Cousins, Dave
Stephenson and Kevin Deitner.
Early in the second period the
Crusaders upped their lead to 7 to 1
on goals by Kevin McArter, Kevin
Deitner and Brian Ten Pas.
However, Ripley scored two goals
late in the period to narrow
Brussels’ lead to four goals.
Early in the third Ripley scored
to make the score 7 to 4 for the
Crusaders. However, the Crusad-
Ontario food is exported world
wide, from the United States,
Great Britain and Japan to coun
tries such as Spain, Senegal, Israel
and Panama.

During the game the Crusaders
