Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Emerson recently were Mrs. Laura Bielby of Plenty, Sask, and her sister Elsie of Kerrobert, Sask. Phone 887-9250 First euchre held The first euchre of the season was held on Monday evening at the Ethel Community Centre, hosted by Ethel W.I. members Doris Jacklin and Margaret McMahon. There were 14 tables in play with winners as follows: high man - John Subject; high lady - Clara Haig; low man - George Pearson; low lady - Alice Stevens. High table winners were Eva Harrison, Les Edwards, Bill McClelland and Mary Bell. Prime Cuts meet The third meeting of the Ethel II Prime Cuts 4H Club was held October 17atBethEarl’s home. The meeting began with the 4-H Pledge and roll call, naming two cuts of beef used by members’ families. A discussion was held on suggestions for a title page. Bonnie Brewer, a foster parent to teenagers, gave a talk on her work. She and her family accept only teenagers as foster children. Fol­ lowing orientation, she said that a teenager will be sent to her family where total integration of all family members is the goal. There is always a close contact maintained between the social worker and both foster child and foster parent, with the social worker usually only a few minutes away and ready to help. A euchre party was allotted to each member for the upcoming season. Helen Dobson was named as the new W.I. representative on the Hall Board. Doreen. Suter gave an update on the playground equipment fund. Two items are on display in the Ethel General Store, with both to be raffled before Christmas, with all proceeds going into the Equip­ ment Fund. An invitation was received from theEthel4HClub toan Interna­ tional Food Party in November. A motion was passed that the W.I. cater the Grey Township the surrounding area. Several people from this com­ munity attended the celebration in the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre in Brussels on Saturday evening on the occasion of Doug and Marjory Fraser's 40th wedding anniversary. Grandmothers and guests were welcomed to the Walton Women’s Institute meeting on Wednesday evening, October 19, held in the community hall. Mrs. Marion Godkin presided for opening, after the Institute Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada, she read an item, “A slice of life” and a poem, “The Old Wooden Tub”. Margery Huether was pianist. Minutes were approv­ ed as read by Marjory Humphries. Membersand guests answered the roll call on “Name a custom that you have greatly admired from an Ethnic group in your area.” Commander Bob Schoemacher of the American Legion at Standish, Michigan, was on hand at the Brussels Legion Benefit Dance on Friday to invite local Legioq members back to Standish on Saturday for the Benefit the American sister-city had planned for the Brussels Legion Building Fund. Looking on is MC Frank Stretton of the local Legion’s Fund-raising Committee. The Institute will sponsor a public meeting on recycling at the hall, Wednesday, Oct. 26at8 p.m. Come out and see the video that will make us more aware of what to do with different items of garbage, there will be a question period and answers to the many problems. The Institute Grace was sung before retiring to the basement for lunch, served by Betty McCall and Margery Huether. Some business was attended to and reports given after the lunch.
