Phone 526-75H9 Don Kai tells Auburn Wl about Japan The Women’s Institute meeting was held Tuesday, October 18 at the Community Hall. Mrs. Isabel Moore, second vice president chaired the meeting with Opening Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and 0 Canada and Institute Grace. The hostesses Mrs. Emerson, Marjorie McDougall and Marion Haggitt served delicious pie and beverage. Tina Empey gave the treasurer’s report. The correspon­ dence was read by secretary Kay Lapp. Mrs. Margaret Kai favored with several selections on the piano. Bernice Anderson introduced Don Kai who was the guest speaker on Japan. He illustrated the different ways of their language, 4-H dub has The third “Much Ado About Meats’’ meeting was held on Monday, October 17 at the home of Jean Plaetzer. First, the girls began to prepare their tasty dinner of crispy liver strips, veal schnitzel, lamb, sweet and sour meat loaf, pizza soup and ceasar salad with bacon. They then tasted many kinds of sausage slices to see which they preferred. Col borne hires clerk treasurer Shelley Lynn Wilkins of Dor­ chester will be the new clerk-trea­ surer of Colborne Township, suc­ ceeding present clerk-treasurer Hudson Millburn whois retiring on December 31, 1988. Wilkins received her Honours Bachelor of Public Administration degree from the University of Windsor in 1987 and qualified for the A.M.C.T.A. (A) designation in 1988. She is a member of the Institute of Public Administrators of Canada. Currently she is employed as administrative assistant for the township of North Dorchester. Tina Empey gave an account on the Rally held at Hensail. The card convenor Jean Plaetzer gave her report. The roll call was on crafts and each person answered by telling about their crafts. The meeting closed with the Queen. taste treats Denise Gross’ idea for a name “The Hamburger Helpers’’ was agreed upon. They then started their meeting which was on the topic of beef. They learned about the different grades and cuts. The original “three meetings is one’’ was delayed due to lack of time until the next day. On Tuesday they completed meetings four and five which were on the topics of pork and lamb, and learned the proper cooking proce­ dures. They also discussed variety meats. The group will meet again on November 14 at 7 p.m. with the Women’s Institute to show their appreciation for sponsoring them. The girls will serve the meat dishes they have learned to prepare. Dave Snihur conducted the Sunday morning service at Knox United Church and Nancy Park was organist. Call to Worship was read alternately followed by the hymn “You Servants of God’’. Rev. Snihur gave the Prayer of Ap­ proach followed by the announce­ ments. The senior choir sang the anthem “Did You Think to Pray’’ under the direction of Margaret Kai.Thechildren’s song was “The Lord Loves Me’’. The children’s story was “Gorilla - Coco and his pet kitten called Ball.” Rev. Snihur presented Lori Armstrong with acertificate for having finished reading all of The New Testament. Rev. Snihur read scripture from John followed by the prayer chorus “Silently now I wait for Thee’’ followed by the scripture reading from Genesis. The minister’s sermon was entitled “When God expects the Unexpected”. The offering was received by Peter Verbeek and Murray Rollinson with Offeratorv Response “We Give Thee but Thine Own’’. The hymn “Will Your Anchor Hold’’ was sung. Rev. Snihur pronounced the Bene­ diction. Reach Out, Reach Out to others, ended the service. Next Sunday there will be an early hymn-sing. Auburn WMS gives thanks The montly meeting of the Auburn Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Society was held at the home of the president Martha Daer. She welcomed all to the meeting. The Service of Thanksgiving was follow ed from the Glad Tidings which included hymns and prayers and scripture wreadings. Three readings were given on “Autumn and “Harvest Home”. The meeting closed by all repeating the Lord’s Prayer. Whereas at the time of the com ing into force of the Ontario Temperance Actno By-Law passed under the Liquor Licence Act or any other Act were in force in the Village of Blyth; And whereas under section 26 of the Liquor Licence Act, R.S.O. 1980, the Council of a municipality may submit to a vote of the persons qualified to be entered on the voters’ list and to vote at elections in the municipality any question [or questions] set forth In the Liquor Licence Act; And whereas the Council considers it expedient and desirable to submit to a vote of the persons qualified to vote thereon as aforesaid the following question: ARE YOU IN FAVOUR OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF GOVERNMENT STORES FOR THE SALE OF SPIRITS, WINE AND BEER? And where as the Council considers It expedient and desirable that the vote on the question shall be taken upon the day upon which, under the Municipal Elections Act, a poll will be held at the next election of members of Council; And whereas it is necessary to provide by By-Law for the submission of the said question to the persons qualified to vote thereon and for the taking of their votes thereon; Therefore, the Council of the Corporation of the Village of Blyth in the County of Huron, enacts as follows: 1. Under the Liquor Licence Act there is hereby submitted toavoteofthepersons qualified to be entered on the voters’ list and to vote as elections in the municipality and the following question: ARE YOU IN FAVOUR OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF GOVERNMENT STORES FOR THE SALE OF SPIRITS, WINE AND BEER? 2. The vote shall be taken upon the date upon which, under the Municipal Elections Act, a poll will be held at the next election of members of Council.
