Entertainment Blyth Lions Club had an outstanding turnout for the first night of its Dabber Bingos Oct. 4 when more than • 100 took part in the first games. Library hosts art display A unique art display is coming to the Brussels Branch Library as part of the Huron County Library’s Ontario Public Library Week (Oct. 17-23) celebrations. The provincial Ministry of Cul­ ture and Communications com­ missioned Canadian Artist, Bar­ bara Reid, to create artwork for publicity materials to promote County Libraries. The colourful poster and bookmarks designed by Barbara Reid are currently on display at the Brussels Branch Library. The original plasticine artwork will be on display from Oct. 15 to 20. Barbara Reid often uses the unusual medium of plasticine to create stunning illustrations for children’s books. She has won numerous awards for her work including: “The Canada Council Prize, 1986; The IODE Illustrator’s Award, 1986; The Ruth Scwartz Award, 1986; The Elizabeth Clea­ ver Award, 1987; The Ezra Jack Keats Award, 1987. The children’s books she has illustrated include: “New Baby Calf’’, “Have You Seen the Birds’ ’, and “Sing A Song of Mother Goose’’. Barbara Reid is a native of Toronto. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art and began her career illustrating text books. She has recently written, as well as illustrated, the recently published book, Playing With Plasticine. Everyone is invited to visit the Brussels Branch Library and see the original artwork for the County Library poster during the week it will be at the Branch. The Display will tour Huron County Branch Libraries during the month of October.
