Sports Bulls drop season's opening game 5-3 Londesboro diamonds win Tri-county crown The Londesboro Diamonds com pleted a successful season last Tuesday by defeating Winthrop to win the Tri-County Midget Girls “A” Championship for the second consecutive season. The girls finished the regular season with 10 wins and one loss to put them in first place. They then faced third place Listowel in the first round of playoffs and defeated them two games to one, sandwich ing 20-9 and 22-4 wins around an 18-6 loss. This placed the girls in the finals against Winthrop, who had hand ed them their only defeat of the regular season. The Diamonds ‘walked’ to vic tory in the first game by a score of 19-10. Winthrop pitching yielded 18 walks in the game which eventually led to 1S4 of the Londesbororuns. Lori Bromley had a big night at the plate with two doubles, a triple and a walk. Lori Leibold struck out nine and walked four in picking up the victory. In game two, Londesboro start ed slow but a solo double play by Deanna Lyon in the bottom of the fifth seemed to ignite the girls. They scored eight runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Brenda Finch Brussels Bulls 1988-89 Hockey Schedule Friday, Oct. 7 Brussels at Mitchell 8:30p.m. Friday, Oct. 14 Seaforth at Brussels 8:30p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 Wellesley at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 Brussels at Exeter 8:30p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 Lucan at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 Brussels at Seaforth 8:30p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 Tavistock at Brussels 2:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 Brussels at Exeter 8:30p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 Seaforth at Brussels 2:00p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 Brussels at Lucan 8:15p.m. Saturday Nov. 12 Brussels at Wellesley 8:30p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 Mitchell at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 Brussels at Tavistock 8:30p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 Exeter at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 Brussels at Tavistock 8:30p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27 Wellesley at Brussels 2:00p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 Brussels at Lucan 8:15p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 Brussels at Mitchell 8:30p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 Lucan at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 Seaforth at Brussels 9:00p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 Mitchell at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 Brussels at Exeter 8:30p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18 Exeter at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Dec. 23 Brussels at Tavistock 8:30p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 Wellesley at Brussels 8:30p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 Brussels at Mitchell 8:30 p.m. Sunday,Jan. 8 Mitchell at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 Brussels at Seaforth 8:30p.m. Sunday,Jan. 15 Lucaii at Brussels 2:00p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 Brussels at Lucan 8:15p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 Brussels at Wellesley 8:30p.m. Sunday,Jan. 22 Exeter at Brussels 2:00p.m. Sunday,Jan. 29 Tavistock at Brussels 2:00p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 Brussels at Seaforth 8:30p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 Brussels at Wellesley 8:30p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 Tavistock at Brussels 2:00p.m. grand-slam home run, and secured a 14-6 win for a two game lead in the series. The Brussels Bulls opened their 1988-89 schedule unsuccessfully Friday night in Mitchell losing by a 5-3 score to the hometown Hawks. Mitchell opened quickly scoring at the 4:47 mark and added a powerplay goal in the dying minutes of the first period for a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. The Hawks added to their lead scoring the only goal of the second period and the Bulls were down 3-0 after 40 minutes. The Bulls hit the scoreboard quickly in the third as Greg Crummer scored on the powerplay from Marty Rutledge and Paul Coultes at 1:53. However Mitchell notched a short-handed goal min utes later and increased their lead to 5-1 by the midway point of the third period. Brussels added two powerplay goals late in the game, Ken Jacklin from Bob McMillan at 14:14 and Rutledge from Crummer and Brian Campbell at 19:33. Although the Bulls were badly outplayed in the first period being outshot 13-6 they had their chances in the second and third. Final shots were 30 apiece. A bright nqte was the Bulls powerplay which clicked for three goals. The Juniors play their home opener this Friday night at 8:30 vs. Seaforth, followed by a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. vs. Wellesley.
