The Middlesex Presbytery representing 73 churches in the London area opposed the church policy at a meeting Tuesday of last week and the Oxford Presbytery voted a week earlier against the policy. Some churches in the Kent and Essex area have voted to break away from the United Church over the issue and have formed their own church out of the rift. One minister from the London confer ence said that the decisions by the presbyteries should show “the light at the end of the tunnel” for church members unhappy with the church’s decision. “It’s a message for those ready to abandon ship: hang in there,” he said.
