Firemen from Wingham, with the assistance of the Blyth and District Fire Area tanker truck, battled a stubborn fire inside the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art McCracken west of Belgrave late Monday afternoon. The McCrackens had only recently bought the house and hadn’t yet had the chance to completely unpack. Belgrave people attend awards ceremony Dr. Tom Lockridge, his daughter Sheila and son John of Manches­ ter, New Hampshire; Major Doug Lockridge of Shilo, Manitoba; Mrs. Frances McCammon and Miss Ruth Lockridge of Islington and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hewitt of St. Catherines attended the Celebra­ tion ‘88 Awards in the Wingham Armouries Sunday, September 25. Major Douglas Lockridge, re­ presenting the Lockridge family, was presented with a plaque in memory of his father, the late Alfred Lockridge. Later all gather­ ed at the home of Mrs. Irlma Edgar, Wingham. Other guests at the same home were Mrs. Winnifred Johnston, Wingham; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar, RR4, Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse, Bel­ grave. ***** Justin Walsh of Perth, Austra­ lia; Ross Procter and Jack Wick- stead ofMorrisTownship havejust returned home from a motor trip through the Western provinces to Vancouver, B.C. On the way out Jack visited with hissister-in-law, Mrs. Edith Wick- stead of Gladstone, Manitoba and called on relatives and friends in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Ed­ monton, Alberta and Chilliwack, B.C. Justin visited with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Thacker of Burdet, Alberta. Justin is a good friend of Ross and Mary Procter’s son Chris who is still travelling in Australia.***** The Belgrave Non-Profit Hous­ ing Committee met last week and decided that the Committee mem­ bers would conduct a survey of Morris and East Wawanosh town­ ships to determine the need for Senior Citizen Housing in Bel- , grave. They hope to have this completed by November 1, 1988. Mrs. Bruce Griffin of London spent Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Hanna and Christine of North Battleford recently visited with their grand­ parents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna. BENJAMIN'S COMING Belgrave Compiled by Mrs. Helen Stonehouse. Phone 887-9487 Belgrave UCW has Thanksgiving theme A Thanksgiving theme of wor­ ship was given by Mrs. Harold Vincent and Mrs. Janisa Coultes for the General Meeting of Knox United U.C.W. Belgrave held September 29. A Cook Book brought out by the United Church is available now to individuals or as a fund raiser. Items of clothing will be collected at Ross Anderson’s residence for a bale to be sent to ‘Good Will’ by October 19. Mrs. Coultes displayed a quilt that was tied by the Girl Guides at Camp Keewaydin Craft Camp last summer and will be donated to Friendship House in Goderich along with a box of assorted items brought asarollcallbyU.C.W. members. The guest speaker Miss Beverly Brown gave a very informative talk about her work as Co-ordinator of Volunteer and Home support programmes for Town and Country Homemakers. It is a not-for-profit agency run by a board of directors. There are presently about 200 homemakers in Huron County. Their job is to encourage people to live indepen­ dently in their own homes by giving help and encouragement in time of need. The charge to clients is based on income and size of the family unit. The Huron County Home care Unit decides who will get home care paid for through O.H.I.P. Volunteers are always needed to rake leaves, supply transportation and to visit the lonely just to mention a few of the services that volunteers can do. The next meeting will be held November 24. A social time over a cup of tea and cookies concluded the meeting. Eggs are graded not only for size, but for their shell quality and the quality of their interior as well.
