Local Lions co-host 4th annual walk-a-dog-athon Sunday, October2, will mark the 4th National Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon. Nationally, Canadians and their dogs will be walking 10 kilometres to raise funds to provide free dog guides to qualified blind and visually impaired Canadians. The Blyth and Auburn Lions Clubs will co-host this event with the Goderich Lions Qub. The local Cranbrook Compiled by Mrs. Mac Engel. Phone #87 6645 Couple returns from trip Mr. and Mrs. Murray Crawford accompanied by the latter’s broth­ er John Crawford and his wife Betty, enjoyed a trip to Eastern Ontario. During the trip they enjoyed a visit to the Eastern Breeder’s Association at Kempt- ille. Peter Hagedoorn’s cousins Aleida and Jan Van De Vegte from South Africa, and Jack and Johan­ na Jesweit from Brockville came to Cranbrook. The last time they had seen each other was at a family reunion in Holland. Mr. and Mrs. Angus Starr, Shelburne, were weekend visitors with Don and Mrs. Cotton. Jack Conley was admitted to University Hospital, London, on Grey Central area walk will take place in Goderich on October 2 beginning at 1 p.m. from Suncoast Mall. Registration is one hour before the event begins. Many of the 53,000 registered blind Canadians could lead a more mobile, independent style of life if provided with a free dog guide with the money raised from this walk. Last year Canadians and their dogs raised $220,000.00 and this year’s goal is $550,000.00. Persons wishing to participate are invited to pick up a sponsor form and get as many pledges as they can. Everyone, with their dog, is welcome to join the walk on October 2. Sponsor forms are available from Don Scrimgeour in Blyth at 523-9665, Jim Schneider in Auburn at 526-7770 or any Lions Club Member. All proceeds from the walk go to Canine Vision Canada, a non-profit organization that was founded by the Lions Foundation of Canada. It is supported by private and corporate donations. National sponsors for the Walk-A-Dog-A- Thon are Ralston Purina Inc., Lions Foundation of Canada and The Bank of Montreal. MRS. BAILEY, THE NEW GRADE 5 TEACHER AT GREY by R. Van Veen and K. Kerr Mrs. Bailey, a new grade 5 teacher at our school came this year from Howick Central. Her first impression of our schoolwasitssmallersize, and that she likes her location in the grade 5 classroom. She also likes children and enjoys teaching them. As a young school girl she always dreamed about being a teacher and is glad that her dream came true. We hope Mrs. Bailey enjoys teaching at Grey Central as much as she has enjoyed teaching at Howick for 12 years. NEW KINDERGARTEN PUPILS AT GREY by S. Boyd and R. Veitch We interviewedfour children from kindergarten. Their names were Crystal Edgar and Ronny Breary from kindergarten and Allison Rapson and Robert Kerr from Kindergarten B. Crystal Edgar - Crystal enjoyed the first week of school. She likes playing wtih blocks, colouring and picture cards. Crystal enjoys being in Mrs. Gottfried’s class. Ronny Breary - Ronny loved the first week of school. He likes playing with animals, blocks, puzzles, and colouring. Ronny likes his teacher. Kindergarten B Allison Rapson - Allison liked the first week of school. She enjoys doing puzzles and colouring. She loves painting pictures the best. Allison likes her teacher and classmates. Robert Kerr - Robert loved the first week of school. He enjoys playing with blocks, the sandbox and likes to paint. He met a lot of new friends. THE NEW ECHO TEAM by C. Earl and J. Vanass Another year has come and students have been chosen to write for the school paper. This team consists of grade 8: Dennis Terp- stra, Johnnie Miners, Jolanda Vanass and Cathy Earl, from Grade 7: Rich Veitch, Rachel VanVeen, Shannon Boyd, and Kara Kerr. When Christmas comes, another team will be chosen. Monday and u nderwent surgery on Wednesday. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery.
