Gladys Van Egmond of RR 1,
Clinton, chairman of the Fiddle
and Step-Dancing Competitions at
the Huron Pioneer Thresher &
Hobby Association’s Reunion in
Blyth on Setember 9-11, says she
was well pleased with both the
quality and numbers of competi
tors in both competitions, noting
that “they seem to be getting
better every year.”
She added that she was also well
pleased with the judges for both
competitions, three out of four of
whom were new to the Blyth show
this year. Bothjudgesfor the Step-
Dancing competition, Kim (Craig)

themselves won at competitions all
over southwestern Ontario and
into the eastern part of the
province; while Fiddle Contest
judge Reg Freer is also new to
Blyth, while his co-judge, Karl
McNaughton of Lucan, was back
for his second year.
“We try not to have any one
judge back for more than two years
in a row,” Mrs. Van Egmond said,
“And it is hard to find new judges
qualified for the level of competi
tion our show attracts.”
There were more than 50
fiddlers of all ages signed up for the
Fiddler’s Jamboree on the first
Friday evening of the Reunion,
Mrs. Van Egmond said, while 30
