County plans public meetings on waste Continued from page 1 ing the Master Plan study. Steering Committee meetings are open to the public, but to ensure that all residents of the county are aware of the issues being investigated and have the opportunity to provide comment or to become involved in other ways, several public meetings will be held throughout the course of the study. The first, to review the consultants’ preliminary report, is scheduled for late next month, while others are planned for next spring and in January and July of 1990. In addition, public work shops and open houses will be held periodically todiscuss various local issues; all public meetings will be advertised in local newspapers, says Ms. Richter. The development of evaluation criteria to be used in determining the location of the final waste disposal site or sites will be a critical component of the study, and will consist of a number of categories which the public will be asked to rank in order of their relative importance; for example, is it more important to minimize the disruption of the way of life of the community, or to minimize the impact of a waste management system on resource use? The opportunity to rank the criteria, and to comment on the draft Stage One report, will be made available at one of a number of public meetings to be held throughout the county at the end of October.
