Phone 887-9487 Knox Presbyterian marks 124th year Members of Knox Presbyterian Church, Belgrave celebrated their 124th anniversary Sunday morn­ ing, September 18. Mr. Don Vairwas guest speaker and chose for his topic “The Church is one Foundation.’’ Mr. and Mrs. Don Vair sang two duets accompanied by Mr. Vair at the piano. Music for the hymns was supplied by the organist Mrs. Hazel Dalrymple. Guests were present from Mel­ ville Presbyterian Church, Brus­ sels and surrounding area. Follow­ ing the service, lunch was served in the Women’s Institute Hall. The Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. met on September 13, in the school room of the Church with Mrs. Sarah Anderson in charge. Mrs. Alice Scott opened the worship with the hymn, “All the way my Saviour leads me.” For the theme “Communion”, a reading of Luke 22:14-20 was given and meditation followed. After Mrs. Scott had led in prayer the hymn “ Hear O My Lord, I see Thee face to face” was sung. Mrs. Glenn Coultes continued ‘ the study of Matthew from Wm. Barkly’s book and the Good News Bible for the sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes. Mrs. Anderson read the study of South Africa with problems of violence. Apartheid and rights as taken from the Mandate prepared by Mrs. JanisaCoultes who was unable to come to the meeting. Mrs. Lawrence Taylor used the mandate for stories of the oppres­ sion of the black women because of the existing system of government which is based on apartheid. Mrs. Etta Cook will observe her 99thbirthdayonSaturday, Sep­ tember 24. Corey McKee is living in Listowel, attending Listowel Se­ condary School and is playing hockey with the Junior B Cyclones. Mr. and Mrs. Willon Waynes of Sault Ste. Marie called on their cousins Mrs. Winnifred Johnston of Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse, Belgrave on Sunday evening. The first card party will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. with Isabel Adams, Leona Arm­ strong, Ruth Bauer and Kathy Bridge on the lunch committee. Peggy Cudmore of the quilt committee informed members that the blocks were done but that the quilt still has to be put together. A re minder was given that the fall bazaar is being held on Friday, Oct. 21. Some of the older members are being asked to give information on Majestic W.I. as it will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year. Four of our local 4-H members will be demonstrating stir-fry cooking at the Plowing Match on Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. Charlene Stephenson won the W.I. Scholar­ ship. The members then answered the roll call (Proverbs), Something that mentions bread, yeast or leavening. Ida Evans read the Motto on the ‘ ‘Bread is the Staff of Life" and that bread is the mainstay of life. Freda Pipe read the poems “The Old Dachen Churn” and “The Black Sheep of the Family.” Glenna Stephens demonstrated the Cathedral window making for a pillow, quiltorpin cushion.
