said she had thoroughly enjoyed
her year and a half on council but
her business had grown so fast she
didn’t have the time to give to
council work anymore.
In a written statement Monday
she said ‘‘It has been a great
experience to sit on council for the
pastyear and a half. I have enjoyed
it immensely and couldn’t have
asked for a better council, Reeve
and administration staff.”
Explaining her business pressures
she went on to say “If in the future
my pressures ease, I would
certainly attempt the challenge
again. Every taxpayer should have
the experience. If you have the
time, go for it.”
Councillor Lloyd Sippel also
announced his plans not to run and
in a statement said he had enjoyed
working with the Reeve and all
members of council during six
years of office. ‘ ‘ My decision not to
run again is based on personal
reasons and other commitments
which I feel will not allow me to
carry on as a village councillor.”
Councillor Bill Manning issued a
lengthy statement Monday as to
his reasons for not seeking re-elec
tion . At the top of the list he blamed
the three-year term of office.
Councillor Manning stated he
views the three year term totally
senseless and impractical, where
the candidates spend no personal
or public funds to mount an
election campaign. He said he
protests the demented status of the
bureaucrats; who design a rigid
policy with criterion that may be
suitable to a Municipality of city
status; but in no way is practical or
reasonable when addressing the
rural towns, villages, and munici
palities up and down the highways
and graveled side roads of Ontario.
Councillor Manning said he is
convinced this is another ploy by
the bureaucracies in their blind
and idiotic push for regional
government; and that it will take
younger, more physically capable
persons; with the dedicated will
ingness and intestinal fortitude to
fight for the rights of little people of
little places; than he has to offer.
He said he thinks there has been
on occasion, a lack of consensus on
the direction and authority of office
staff; although admitting that no
one is infallible, Councillor Mann
ing said he is unwilling to discuss or
compromise his position and
thoughts on the subject; adding
only that he too is not infallible.
Councillor Manning stated that
he has the highest respect for the
Reeve and fellow council members
with regards to the business of
runningthe Villagesaying each
member pursing with vigor what
they personally see as a proper and
just priority for the betterment of
the ratepayers. While frequently
not in agreement with a subject as
first presented, with ample debate
by the Reeve and councillors, a
reasonable compromise would ex
pedite the subject.
Councillor Manning voiced his
opinion that there are qualified
ratepayers who could and perhaps
should fill out nomination papers at
their earliest opportunity. Having
enjoyed four and a half years of
council work during the “sixties”
and returning for seven years in the
“eighties”; Councillor Manning
said he will miss the challenge that
council work has provided; and
hopes in some small way he has
contributed to a better Village.
Candidates have until Oct. 17 to
file registration and nomination
forms with the village clerk-trea
surer.
