Organizers thank everyone who registered during registration. It makes their jobs much easier, they said. At the present time there are 16 beginners (Sprouts), 16 Novice, 17 Atom, 12 Pee Wees, 16 Bantams and 10 Midgets'. Registration for Ringette was again disappointing. Only three girls registered for Senior Ringette and only seven girls for Junior Ringette. Ringette is an ice skating sport similar to hockey, but using a ring and straight stick as opposed to puck and hockey stick. There is no body contact allowed and a few differences in the method of face off and the areas in which the defencemen and wingers can travel. It’s great exercise and the girls really enjoy it. If you are interested or would like more information, please call Bob Tho mas 887-9383. Organizers say they need more girls for both teams, otherwise Ringette will be cancell ed again this year. Registration for Houseleague was also disappointing - only four. Houseleague is for those boys and girls who would like to play hockey for fun. It is not as competitive as Continued on page 28 with three runs in the first inning but Metal Benders chipped away with one in the first and two in the second then took a lead with three in the fourth and added another in the fifth. But in the sixth, Lazers scored three to make the game close. After Metal Benders scored one in the bottom of the sixth, Lazers took the lead again with four in the top of the seventh. But Metal Benders responded to the challenge and scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the crown. Jim Dickson homered in the second inning for Metal Benders while Ron VanMassenhoven and Brad Cook (with his fourth homer of the tournament) hit round-trip pers in the fourth and Kurt Whitfield belted one in the fifth. Adrian Salverda hit a home run in the seventh for Londesboro. In the “A” championship game, Port Albert struck early and often for an impressive win. They scored three in the first, two in the third and five in the fourth to salt the game away early. Dearborn mana ged one run in the fifth. For Port Albert, Brad Otterbein homered in the first and fourth innings while Don MacDonald, Roy Fisher and Bill Kuik hit one homer each.
