Phone 526-75N9 Hymn-sing held at Knox United The service at Knox United Church on Sunday began with a hymn-sing with Nancy Park as pianist. Rev. Dave Snihur conduc­ ted the service with Nancy Park as organist. Call to Worship was read alternately followed by the hymn “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing”. The minister gave the Prayer of Approach and the Lord’s Prayer was said in unison. The announcements were given. ”0 How I Love Jesus” was sung. Rev. The minister pronounced the Benediction fol­ lowed by the benediction re­ sponse “Reach Out Reach Out To Others” ended the service. People Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shepherd of Sarnia visited with Mrs. Ellen Johnston recently. Mrs. Mary Rollison and son Murray returned after visiting her daughter Mr. and Mrs. Alf Weston of Toronto. Cela Sloman of Clinton was the star of the show when Ontario New Democratic Party leader Bob Rae and his wife, Arlene, attended a performance of the Blyth Festival play “Fires in the Night’’ on Friday evening, as the guests of local NDP hopeful Tony McQuail and his wife, Fran. The play is based on the story of Ontario’s School-on-Wheels, which served as both home and school for Mrs. Sloman and her husband, teacher Fred Sloman, for nearly 40 years, and which has now been renovated as a public museum tn Clinton. In 1983, lights and lumber supplies were purchased. The holding tank, material and installation was done in 1984, along with roofing and siding. In 1985 there was electric and plumbing work done with chairs purchased and the kitchen renovated. The sidewall and handrail was put up in 1986, also landscaping and the refinishing of flooring. In 1987 a serving counter was added to the kitchen, the dusk to dawn light was installed outside and Dashwood windows were put on that fall. There was much volunteer labour which brought down the expenses and the Women's Institute appreciate the community spirit. It is proud of the Community Hall. The copy of the original agree­ ment between the Orange Lodge and the Walton Community Club and the deed for the hall were on display in the basement of the hall the night of the celebration, Aug. 19 when the 50th anniversary of having the hall on this location was held, along with pictures of special events during the years. “The display was headed by the Walton Women’s Institute curator, Jeanne Kirkby assisted by Mar­ garet Craig and Dorothy Sholdice. By all reports the barbecue put on by the Walton Area Sports Club was well acted and enjoyed by all that attended. The program was enjoyed by a full house and a dance to Tiffin’s Orchestra brought a most improtant event of this community to a close. Anniversary cake was served during the dance.
