Wayne Todd and Hugh Todd of St. Helen's Farms have
purchased several new Southdown sheep., through Dow
Down Sales of Hownlanville. Russell Dow travelled to New
Zealand in the spring: to select new bloodlines to introduce
into Canada, ,
The ram which was purchased for $5,000 is the most
expensive ram ever purchased in the. Southdown breed in
Canada. The outstanding feature of this particular ram is its
ely-long-body,it-is-nuteh-longer--than-any-compare
to'in Canada. The purchase also included six other rams and
twelve ewes. •
The Todds hope to improve the breeding in Canada with
their new purchase and anticipate making future . sales to
the United States rather than having all Canadian breeders
making, purchases froM the Americans. For several years
now Canadians have had to turn to the U.S. for breeding
stock due to the lack of fresh bloodlines in Canada.
