Bonnie and. Kerry Boyle were leaving for
Ireland the following morning and, called
'with Me the day after I arrived back in our
Dungannon, Their visit was photograph-
ed and reported for otir local paper and
will perhaps also be reported in yours on
During their staY,here, the I.R.A. blew
up Rousing Eietutive offices in'the town,
causing such damage that they have had
to be abaiidonded. Times have been sad
here during the past feW weeks with
murders; kidnapping, car bombs, booby
traps. Even after so long, I can't
understand how you unite people or any-
thing at all by such dreadful deeds.
'To Mrs, Phyllis Morrison who so very
kindly invited me to the wedding of Lloyd
and Glenda in Lucknow and afterwards to
the reception; my first ever experience of
a Canadian wedding. Not only did she
welcome me as an honoered guest but
when it was time for me to "go, she left
too; and drove Me all that long way back
to your, Dungannon, though as the mother
of the grooni with so many responsibil-
ities, she must-have been exhausted. My
thanks to the dance band for the' special
music they played on my account.
To each and every good soul who• gave
me gifts and mesSages to bring home
with me, both for, myself and for others.
Some official gifts have already 'been•
handed over and I will be presenting •
maple syrup and sugar to Belfast's Lord
Mayor to-morrow on your behalf. The
splendid plaque:-you gave me for our town
was photographed for 'the front page of
'this week's local paper and I will hand it
over at the next meeting of our District
Council early next month at a ceremony
that will be fully reported:
The fine painting you gave me •is now
proudly displayed in my home, reminding
me Of you ail. I saw it at CKNX in
Witigham where I net the artist before he
put the finishing touches to it so I feel as •
though I've watched it' grow and I hope
before too long, visitors from your 'town
will come to see it here.
I travelled to your Dungannon, hoping'
to strengthen the ties between our two

Are you afraid Of the dark? Do mighty monsters lurk
del% your'bed? Do shady ghosts haunt your basement?
e pirates skulking in your closet? Are there burglars
ding behind your furniture? Are 'you afraid of the
,rlt? Most people are. That's why 'basement light switches
e at the top of stairs; nobody wants to go down into
rk spooky-land. And that's why most people have a
;ht beside their bed: These lights aren't for reading,
they're-for-turtling on when-boogey ncises-are- heard. -
most everyone is afraid of the dark.
But why? The answer is simple: because you -can't see
the dark. And when you can't see, you don't know
ad'sthere.' liecattSe you difierk-t-to-Vel-you make .samti----
frig up, Like hairy monsters and one-eyed-pirates. And --
en you get scared, because, of course, these boogeys
'e going to get you.
But boogeys don't exist, right? You made them up,
ht? Right??? Maybe. Maybe they do exist. How do
iu knoW for sure? How do you find out? •
Try turning on the light. This takes a certain amount of
.avert', but it gets 'some results. Chances are good
iu won't find a monster, but if you are still unconvinced,
vestigate. Lopk in your closet. Under your bed.
t the basement. Behind the shower curtain. Check
Terywhere a boogey could exist.
Once you are satisfied that the boogey doesn't exist,
)11'11 be able to do what you were about to do.
'ke sleep.. Or get something from 'the basement,
After several years of hunting for the boogey, you may
cide that boogeys don't exist at all. Then again, you
,ay never be totally, convinced. Don't worry, you're not
one.
