Ripley principal takes. sabbatical After harvest, you know lust where to find your worst quackgrass infestations. So;when you see them, plan to destrby them, with a fall application of Roundup@ herbicide by Monsanto. Here's how Roundup fits into your fall schedule. STAFF Mr. Floyd Stanley, our school principal, is on a sabbaticalleave-thisyeTCr to 'study towards a Master of Education degree. This year we have four new staff members. Mrs. Margaret McIntosh is here• on exchange from Tain, Ross-shire (part of the Highland Region), Scotland. During this year Mrs. McIntosh will teach the Grade 3 class while Mrs. Bourgeois teaches 'in Scotland. Miss Catherine Norton, our Grade 5 teacher, comes to us from Peterborough. The new Special Education and Remedial teacher is Mrs. Marlene Wolfe. Mrs. Wolfe for- merly lived in the area around Scotland, Ontario. Our librarian is Mrs. Pat Duggan. NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT During the summer holidays new playground equipment was erected at our school. Mr. Kummer designed the equipment while the Ripley Lions Club volunteered their valuable labour. The equipment is situated in a 24 by 30 foot sandbox. This is an added • safety feature in the event of falls. The two storey' structure is fabriatted from cedar poles and planks. Other • features of the equipment include firemen's poles, inclined tires, chain, ladder, swinging' tire, trapeze bars,' hanging tirean more. The creative playground provides challenges. for all age groups at our school. Money for its con- struction came from proceeds collected in our chocolate bar sales. Local help and initiative kept the cost a a fraction of what commercially built equipment would have cost. The children's en- thusiastic response to this equipment has made the planning and effort well worthwhile. MARATHON OF ' HOPE This week the students of our school began a "run-a-thon" in an effort to raise money to support Terry Fox. The response front the children in our schooL and the people of the community has been overwhelming. The Run- a-thon began officially on. Thursday, September 11 and will end Friday, September 19. Thank you to ail those children who have made the effort to obtain sponsorships and to the community for their support. Delay plowing to let quackgrass regrow. Roundup works on actively growing quackgrass that's at least 8" high. Plowing just breaks up the weeds. Roundup destroys treated quackgrass, rhizomes and all, arid stops it from sprdading or regrowing:-That's why it pays to delay your fall.plowing until the weeds are ready for Roundup. Roundup can deliver 95-99% control of quackgrass. For excellent quackgrass control apply Roundup before the first weedkillinb, frost+ and give the herbi- cide five days to work on the weed before plowing. Follow good agronomic practices. Roundup stops where the treated weeds stop. Roundup goes wherever the treated weeds go. Then it stops. Because Roundup works in the weeds, not in the soil. Next spring, you can plant any labeled crop: corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, barley or potatoes. Hit quackgrass wherever you see it. Because fall is the best time to'control quackgrass with Roundup. See your dealer today and ask about the r'iew trial-size. Monsanto There's never been a hetbidde like this befom Always read and follow label directions for Roundup.
