Need salt spreacder for too* truck 'Town works employees Cliff Crawford and Gary Austin attended the • September meeting of Lucknow Village Council to request the town buy a new salt spreader for the town's truck. Austin explained to council that the shute used in previous years will not fit to the dual action tailgate of the new truck, purchased this- year for the works department. Crawford pointed out it is illegal to have •-• someone. standing in the back of-the tr_ua load the shute as Austin has been doing and suggested the town would probably receive a .hefty fine if a safety inspector happened along while the two men' were spreading salt. The two works employees showed council a broChure of Elston Manufacturing, Mis- sissauga, describing a type of salt spreader they believe would do the job. The cost price is about $2,500.. Councillor Ab Murray suggested council contact Diesel Equipment Ltd:, TorOnto, from whom they purchased the town 'truck to see if they build a spreader. - Reeve George Joynt interjected there is no ---- ----meney-for--a--salt--spreader this year and suggested that a spreader such as the one council was considering would be "a h.-- of a lot of money for the salt we pit on:" councillor Murray pointed out the spread- er is a one time outlay. and perhaps council should consider a hydraelic driVen unit.. Most highway sanders are 'hydraulic driven, he said, and perhaps one of the village's fabricating Sheps could build a hydraulic , driven spreader. Murray said he. thought . -$2,500-vvas toe.. mu ch-te --pay for a -spreader for . the town's purposes. . could see it if , we had township roads to do, but all we really have is corners."
