Par- rott, "Ministry scientists have completed a study of one year old fish in 14 precam- brian lakes in Ontario as part of our acidic precipitation program. Ontario is spend- ing more than $.5 million this year on research into aspects of acid rain," said lir. Par- rott. "This specific study is one stage in our longterm research to determine the possible effects of acid rain on human 'health. Depending on the acidity of the lakes studied, mercury residues in the young fish ranged from 0,02 parts per million (ppm) to 0.197 ppm. These levels of mercury contamination are Signific- antly below fish consumption guideline levels. Normally fish of the size studied are not eaten. Lakes studied ranged from highly acidic to alkaline with Stanley :George Drennan, Huron TerraCe, Kincardine, died in Kincardine General Hespital on. Wednesday, , June 18, 1980, in his . 78th year. Kathryn MacDonald of De- :trait on April' 19, 1940. He is high buttering capacity. Low- est mercury concentrations were found in fish from lakes with high btiffering capacity, and in one 'lake that had heen experimentally treated with lime in 1975 and 1976. Another factor, that influ- enced the mercury uptake of "-fish Was the size of the lake's drainage basin, In lakes of similar acidity higher mer- cury contaminations were found in fish front lakes with larger drainage baSins. In lakes with low acidly and high buffering capacity the sizes of drainage basins did eath McCARTER Mr. Keith P., a resident of 57 Dundas Street, Wallaceburg, Ontario, Friday, June 13, 1980 at his residence, age 59.
