It was loaded at all times, as that was what we used to trade in for groceries at Ben Crawford's store; mostly flout, 'sugar and tea etc. as we had most other necessities of our own, such `.as ' fruit, vegetables, milk, eggs and butter. We Usually hada keg'of salted lake trout, a. quarter of beef or would slaughter a hog for winter use, We had a plentiful supply of game in the woods and bunting was. good, lots of partridge, 'snow shoe and • cotton tail rabbits, also fox, coons-and-muskrats-.-There were no deer in this' part of the, country in my earliest days, but were quite plentiful later, 1 can recall how peace- ful it was to be up in SterVart's swamp hunting on a real stormy day.
