If your organization is bolding a dance, there's one sure fire way te-attract a crowd. - Hire "By Special Appointment" to provide the music, ' Capacity crowds have become their tradition in 'this area and their secret o success is simple. They sound good. Their , music is great to dance to and they entertain. - —Lucknow's own-rock-and--roll band, they-- formed 2% years ago and have played all over southwestern Ontario booking 49 weekends out of 52 last year. They lave travelled to Arthur, Brampton and Thames- ford to do engagements. The original group came together when Rick Passmore, of Lucknow, decided 'to advertise for a lead guitarist, bass guitarist and percussionist to form a group. to back him up as lead singer. He had been singing to records in his home, for parties and friends and a friend who is in the recording business told him he should form a group. Dan Lear and Wayne Lyon, who had been playing together for some time, answered the ad and were later joined by Mike Crocker. Lear is still -lead guitarist with the group. Ken Pollard later joined'the group as keyboard player and they were on their way. Crocker left the group after two months and Andy Markson came in to play bass when Crocker moved to British Columbia. The group was re-organized last January and now includes Lear on lead guitar, Don Cook on lead guitar, Dale Sewers on bass guitar and Steve Allen on drums. All are local talent, with Sewers the only import. Lear hails from Londesboro, Cook is from Goderich and Allen from Holyrood. ,Sewers came in from London. Competition is keen among rock and roll bands. There ,are,./plenty of hobby bands around and there are the groups who make it their profession, booking six nights a week. •You have to be good to survive and even better to be successful. Passmore believes BSA's success stems from the fact they do a show. Some people just like to watch, he 'says, and we put a lot into a good light show and costumes. The group will change costume three times a night. Their first set comprises songs . on the pop charts and a mixture of country and pop. Rick as lead singer, has a_black_ tuxedo; a black three piece suit and a white three piece suit which he alternates for this set. Their second set is a tribute to Elvis Turn to page 19' •
