Home Delivery first began in Lucknow In 1893 - The Dairy Industry originated when. the first settlers purchaSed sufficient, land to, have a garden and pasture for some Stook. As time went on more settlers arrived and Milk was supplied to them by their neighbours. With the develoPment in building, smaller portions of land were used for pasture and the residents became more dependent upon the farmers for their milk supply 'Whieli`was at first distributed in small pails and in cans with measuring units. Frank -Greer, who resided on the Boundary, west. Of Lucknow approximately 87 years-ago, was the first person to have a regular milk route. He ,was followed by Fred MacDonald and Philip MacMillan, the latter selling his business to Malcolm Beaton, whg continued on .the business until 1923 and was followed by R. J. Button. During this same period, milk was distributed by local residents, including Thomas H. Burni, Peter Johnstone and Dave Milne. In 1928 Ewart Taylor began milk delivery in the Village and in 1937 built Fairview Dairy Plant. situated south of Lucknow and had a pasteurizer installed. The dairy business then-became known as. Fairview Dairy. He later sold out his interest in the dairy in 1942 to Charles Webster and Alex Andrew. In 1945 Alex Andrew bought out Charles Webster's interest In, the Dairy. In August 1966 Lakeview Dairy in Barrie began supplying dairy products to Fairview Dairy. September 1972 Tom Andrew purchased the dairy from his father and is now the present owner.
