The Buren County Library
board will be looking into
moving the children's section,
of the Seaforth Library to the
lower.floor of the libratY
• building because the upper
flOor has become very Crowd-
ed with. both adult and child-
ten'S sections on the same
floor..
At present St.'James Sep
arate. School has classes
**Sing the 'library for book
exchanges because the
school does not have a libr-
ary. On alternate' Weeks; two
classes from the school are
perrhittedto go to the library
toexchange bocks.,This pro-
grain and the library's other,
children's programs make kt:
awkward to have the child-
ren's section on the same
floor as the `adult section.
The Seaforth co-operatiYe
Nursery School is presently
using the ''library's lower
neer four mornings and two
afternoons each week how-
ever, and, if tbe library takes
over the lower floor, the
nursery school would have to .
find a newniz-nue.
The co-operative nursery
has been operating from the
librarY since October, 1977.
There' are 48 children regist-
ered in the nursery school
program which. has classes
Tuesday and Thursday after-
noonS. as well as Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday. mornings,.
Seaforth'S depUty-reeve
Bill Dale told County, council
he wonders why the library is
being used, as a school.
"It's a strange thing to
me," commented Dale,
'That with school enrollment
down, Why are we Using ()T''
libraries' for' school rooms?"
Seaterth reeve John Flan-
nery told council ,he ,.objected
to the procedure a. the
library beard. He Pointed out
that at the Seaferth-T-town-
council's laSt meeting, they
approved fencing an area of
the library grounds. for use
by the, nursery school .child-
ren. Flannery Said if he had
know the library board would
be reeking into :using the
lower floor, 'it could have
affected council's' decision •
concerning the fence.
Flannery told council he.
wanted the library board to
take the matter to the coin
mittee of finance and general
government rather than the
entire Seaforth council,' Flan-
nery said he did notobject to
the intention of the library
board, :to have the Seaforth ,
librarY use the entire build-:
ing, but he was objecting to
the board's procedure.
