Dennis Wilkins, a surgeon on staff at the
hospital, has died recently. He said a cer-
tified surgeon on staff at Wingham
hospital would make available certain pro-
cedures and patient's would Cot have to be
referred.
The' report from the joint assessment
committee made the recomniendation that
another certified surgeon be brought on staff
before Dr. Wilkins' death.
Dr. McKim requested the board wait until
a second anaesthetist was • prOcured before
the board move to find a certified surgeon.
When Dr. McKim suggested that the hospit-
al's surgery had remained stable, executive
director Hayes pointed out it had dropped 3
per cent in the past year and had been
dropping for the past several years.
Dr. D. T. Jolly Suggested this may reflect
Dr. Wilkins' restrictions of the type of
surgery he was doing due to his age.
Mr. Hayes said, figures are available
which, if studied, could determine whether
more surgery was being referred out of
Wingham in past years or whether the
decline in surgical procedures at the hospital
was a reflection of the restrictions of an
aging doctor.
Hayes said he- would bring the figures to
the next board meeting if requested.
