Wingham has traditionally had four rep-
resentaOes on the hospital board because •
The Wingham and District hospital will try
to procure a second anaesthetist because the
workload for only one anaesthetist at the
hospital is too great. •
Dr. J. C. McKim is a general practitioner
and anaesthetist and has .worked alone as
hospital anaesthetist since Dr. John Bradley
left the hospital last year.
„ The hospital medical staff advised the
hospital board at their April -meeting that
they advertise for a GP, anaesthetist since
there would not be enough work for an
anaesthetist whof specializes.
Dr, McKim told the board a GP anaesthe-
, tist will be difficult to find because the
increase a doctor receives for adding the
anaesthetist specialty M his general prac,
tioner's qualifications' 'does not encourage
general practioners to take the course to
become an anaesthetist. He knows of one
hospital which has been looking for a GP
anaesthetist for over two years.
The recommendation that the hospital hire
another anaesthetist was made by the joint
hospital assessment program Which was
compiled by the 'Ontario Hospital Associa-
tion (OHA) and the College of Physicians.
The hospital board requested the program
be done to ascertain whether the Wingham
hospital is utilizing their beds in the best•
