National Week for the
Mentally Retarded is a week
set aside- each year when
- every ,m,enter: of 'the com-
munity urgedio —giv*T"
support and understanding
to programs which • streng-
then and enrich the lives of •
mentally retarded persons,
This year, the Wingham
and District Association for
the Mentally,tarded will
mail its Flowers of Hope seed
packets only in rural areas.
In the towns and villages of,
our district, volunteers will
conduct 4 door-to-door can-
vass. Willie Vanderwoude of
Wingharn is chairnian of the
canvassing committee;
It is hoped that canvassers
will be welcomed when they
call at homes during the
week of May 11 through 17,
And it is hoped that everyone
will plant the sunny marigold
Flowers of Hope seeds which
have become a symbol of
hope for Canada's 690,000
mentally retarded persons.
Fair features •
Retfe0 sketches
An opportunity is being
given to non-professional art-
ists of the Bruce area to enter
their- work in the 1980 Walk-
erton Heritage Fair.
The Fair's theme is to
feature and encourage creat-
ive art and handwork, recog-
nizing that these are part of
our. heritage.
The art section is one of
the areas being expanded for
the two-day event this year.
The invitation to exhibit is
being extended to students,
non-profesSional and new
artists aiiii'oPP'Orttinity to
introduce and promote their
work in this new feature for
1980.
The fair committee is invit-
ing submissions of pen and
ink line sketches. The 'theme
of these should be historical
landmarks of the Bruce area.

take place until late October,
the sketches should be for

31st. The artist should also
indicate the location of the
