services clinic, at :the
UniVersity of Guelph,' The
clinid is offered with the
support' of funds prOvi
through the Ontario Ministry
of Agriculture and Food,
The "clinic, will deal with
qUestions relating to the
identification and control of
Pests, the identification of
plants, and the Many
problems encountered by
horticultirists and
homeowners in growing
plants,
For many years, such
problems have been brought
to the University of Guelph,
and several departments fOr
answers. Among those who
responded to such queries
were the late Prof. J. C.
Taylor, arid Professors H.
Goble and C. B. Kelly, who
recently retired, from their
faculty positions.
Modern demands :. for
updated information on•
pesticides and a steadily
growing number of all
inquiries now require a• more
co-ordinated system, with
specimens for identification
and other enqUiries directed
to a central location.. The
new clinic achieves this, and
will provide a more prompt
and better service to the
public. •
The clinic will be staffed,
initially with a
diagnostician, R. T.
Prof. Goble and Prof. Kelly
Wukasch, assisted by both
on a part-time basis. Other
specialists at the. University a
of Guelph and elsewhere will
also act as consultants so 'e
that the clinic can serve a
broad function to the
agricultural industry, an-
ciliary industries and
general public:

Sunflowers
are useful
Like porkers from which
everything is used but the
squeal, sunflowers are ef-
ficient, • adaptable and in-
finitely 'u seful to gardeners.
The huge, golden sunlight
seeking blossoms are
beautiful, more than com-
pensating for sunflower's,
tall, coarse leaves, often
used for screening. Seeds
form quickly, their weight
'making sunflower heads
nod. After the seed heads are
harvested the sturdy, fibrous
stalks can be dried and
saved for use as rustic
tripods to support, vining
vegetables or flowers.
If you want to plant giant
sunflowers, be sure to Select
a variety bearing the name
"Giant" or "Mammoth".
Plant, breeders have
developed all sorts of
shorter, smaller flowered
sunflowers in their quest for
more decorative garden
plants. These newer
varieties are beautiful but
they don't have giant
flowers..
i Raise mowers
Raise the blade on your
lawnmower to 1%-2 inches
for a healthier lawn. More
frequent mowing will be
necessary, but the turf won't
burn as easily.
