Jim is the son of Graham and
Ereda •MacDonald, London.
Jim has been with the
Hudson Bay Company for
several years and is present-
ly in- charge of a Hudson Bay
' -Store in Ranklin Inlet, which
has al , population 'of 1,000,
mostly natives. This inlet .is
located. not far"A91n .the
Arctic Circle.
Jim says the store he is in
--Charge of looks much like any
other grocery or food store in
Lucknow. Fresh "'vegetables
and, fruit and even flowers
are flown in at least twice a
monthi Weather permitting,
';Frozen foods are also flown
in. They get their other
supplies-off-the- boats-when
the ice breakS up in the
summer time. It is very
expensive ,eating tip there, as
oranges are 54C .a piece and
everything else accordingly.
Jim reports it was 45 '
degrees below celsius about
two weeks ago; and 'one day
last winter it went down to
approxiniately 100 below: In
the summer time they have
six 'weeks when the. sun
never, sets.
The young people are very
enthusiastic about hockey
and he, coaches several
teams, but it is too expensive
to play out so they just play.
