Mr. & Mrs. Norman Coultes Norman, Mary Coultes married 50 years CLERK'S NOTICE OF FIRST POSTING OF PRELIMINARY LIST OF ELECTORS Mr. and Mrs. Norman Coultes of Wingham celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, August 27 at a family dinner which was held in their honour at the Wingham Golf and Country Club at 5 p.m. Open House was held from 7 - 8:30 in the Women’s Institute Hall, Belgrave where over 300 relatives, friends and neighbours gathered to convey best wishes to the anniversary couple. Dancing fol­ lowed at 9 p.m. and everyone enjoyed the music supplied by the “Temptations” Orchestra. Norman and Mary Coultes were married in Wingham September 2, 1938 and farmed on the 10th concession of East Wawanosh township until they moved to Wingham in 1983. They have six children: Jim of Edmonton, Alberta; Doug of Rip­ ley; Doris of Milverton; Grant on the home farm; Ken and his wife Linda of Elmira and Ruth and her husband Neil Olson of East Wawanosh. There are six grandchildren: Judy, Denise and Jennifer Coultes of Elmira and Joanne, Jeff and Mark Olson of East Wawanosh. Forests: Our Growing Concern Morris council lets tender for Belgrave,Walton sidewalks Morris Township Council has awarded the contract for the construction of new sidewalks in the hamlets of Belgrave and Walton to KKN Builders Ltd. of Dublin at a total price of $28,275, subject to the approval of Road Superintendent Lloyd Michie. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davies of Owen Sound were dinner guests of Mrs. Mabel Wheeler on Wednes­ day, August 24 and all attended the Patrons’ Night and the opening performance of Border Town Cafe. NOTICE TO ALL CANDIDATES 1988 MUNICIPALELECTIONS A recent amendment to the Municipal Elections Act provides that every person who proposes to be a candidate for any office shall file a “Notice of Registration” before any campaign contributions are accepted or any expenses are incurred. It is suggested that any person interested in being a candidate in the 1988 Municipal Election FOR ANY OFFICE contact the Clerk-Treasurer at the Municipal Office or 523-4545. Helen R. Grubb, Clerk-Treasurer, Village of Blyth. has been estimated at $22,050 and the cost of the Belgrave project at $6,225 with construction to be completed by September 30. Mr Michie was instructed to apply to the MTC for additional funding for the completion of the Walton project (a 50 per cent grant on an earlier estimate of $14,000 for the project has been approved by the ministry.)* Mrs. Walter Bray of Durham and Mrs. John Hanna and daugh­ ters Kimberly and Amanda of North Battleford visited last Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna. No appeals were received. Two construction tenders were opened, andthecontractfor the Nichol Drain was awarded to Barry Weigel Drainage Ltd. of Mildmay, at a price of $18,831. Construction of the drain will take place between September 23 and December 23, subject to the third and final reading of the by-law on Septem­ ber 12. In other business, council dis­ cussed the reconstruction of Bran­ don Street in Belgrave with Mr. Michie, who reported that re-pav- ing will be completed by the end of September. Mr. Michie was also instructed to discuss with Bill Shortreed the construction of an additional driveway into farmland at Lots 17-18, Concession 9. Deputy Reeve Clem McLellan reported that he had spoken with Ben Terpstra, owner of the old Fairgrounds property at Lot 30, Concession 5, to inform him that a road access to Chestnut Street will be installed this fall. Council also discussed holding a ratepayers’ meeting prior to the municipal election on November 14, but no date was set. The next meeting of Morris Twp. Council will be held on September 6, starting at 7 p.m.
