Dianna Just Wants Big switch in TV viewing Sunday The big switch that will see CBC coverage eliminated from CKNX and CFPL television channels and picked upon new UHFfrequencies begins Sunday, September 4. The change will have little effect on those in urban centres with cable television coverage but it will have an effect on rural residents, especially those without a UHF aerial. In this area CBC programm ing will be available from a repeater station at Formosa broad casting on channel 45 on the UHF dial. The station, as will five others in southwestern Ontario including channel 40 at London, will rebroad cast the signal of CBLN in Toronto. A local electronics store owner warned that people will not be able to pull in the CBC signal on their old VHF antennae that brings in channels 2-13. The signal may be strong enough, however, that a special UHF “rabbitears” may pull it in in this area. So far, the supplier said, he has installed about 20 new UHF systems since the word of the switchover came through. CBC programming such as the Olympic Games from Seoul, Korea and Saturday night hockey will be lost to those who cannot receivethe new channels. On the other hand, the changes mean hours of new movies each week as CKNX and CFPL replace CBC programming with movies. Thestationsalsoplan extended local news coverage and more comedy.
