On Thursday, August 18, 16 members of Londesboro Women’s Institute attended the afternoon matinee at Blyth Festival of “Fires in the Night”. It was followed by a delicious supper at the Blyth Inn. This was in place of the regular August W.I. meeting and was enjoyed by all present. Reg and Helen Lawson have just returned from a two week tour of the Maritime Provinces and New England States. Music and Worship committee will meet August30 at 8 p.m. at the Church. The Boys club, boys from grade 5 and 6, will meet Saturday, September 3 at Willy’s Burger Bar, Clinton for miniature golf 1:30 - 3 p.m. The Wonderland Trip leaves the Church at 8 a.m. September 24 to return home at 9 p.m. Ann Marie Thurlowand JimStinsonwill be married in the church on Saturday, August 27 at 3 p.m. People Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. David Popp (nee Karen Wright) who were married in the church on Saturday, August 20. Friends will be sorry to hear Mrs. Olive Penfound is a patient in London Hospital. She is wished a speedy recovery. Sympathy of the community is extended to Joan and Nick Whyte and family in the passing of Joan’s mother, the late Mrs. Fred Mc- Clymont of Huronview. John Lyons of Londesboro, above, left, showed his handsome team of Percheron horses to a second-place win at the Dungannon Fall Fair last Saturday. Competition in the horse classes was keen, and included several novelty events such as horse races and an antique buggy obstacle course. As the summer of 1988 draws to a close the Agricrew and Junior Agriculturalist programs wind down for another year. Huron County Agricrews, who haveworked diligently through record breaking temperatures, have completed another successful season. This year’s team members were: from Clinton, Pete Clynick, Wendy Johnston, Tina Thomas, Michelle Turner, Rom Wammes, Dave Watt, Steve Watt; from Exeter, Mike Agnew, Lynn Feen­ ey, Jennifer Gielnik, Brian Payne, Derek Schwartzentruber, Dennis Webster; and from the Wingham area crew, Tim Hays, David Johnston, Donna Johnston, Andre Kryzanowski, Mike McCullough, Lori Moran and Kurtis Purdon. The crews were kept busy this summer by the strong demand from Huron County farmers. The Junior Agriculturalist pro­ gram was also successful with five of the eight participants complet­ ing the program. Students from Clearwater, Petrolia, Camlachie, Welland, and Peterborough work­ ed alongside Glenn Jeffery of Exeter, Martin VanNinhuys of Bayfield, Cliff Eedy of Winthrop, Gerry Rijkhoff of Walton, Grant Vincent of Belgrave, Ron Pentland of Dungannon, and Mervin Smith of Walton. Both Hosts and the Junior Agriculturalists enjoyed the summer-long working experience. Murray Elston Institutions Minister Murray Elston, M.P.P. for Bruce, has been appointed Mini­ ster of Financial Institutions by Premier David Peterson. While retaining his important position as Chairman of Cabinet’s Management Board, Mr. Elston will now also have responsibility for regulating financial institutions in a manner which maintains their solvency, protects the interests of the public and ensures confidence in the system. His new responsibilities also include a responsibility for the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance and the Pension Com­ mission of Ontario. He takes over the Financial Institutions ministry from Robert Nixon, who retains his position as Treasurer.
