Entertainment Blyth, Brussels libraries
host Dinosaur Delights
Two days after all the air had ran oat in the vault where they had been held prisoner by evil forces in the
town of Dinsley, Gladys [Stephanie Lentz] and Hal [Jake Chalmers, at right] were released alive when an
explosion blasted the wall down. Other characters nearly blown to bits were [from left] Joanne Olson,
Christa Crawford and Chris Walker, as the Blyth Festival’s Young Company concluded its summer
workshop with the final episode of “Dinsley, the Soap, not the Street,” on Saturday.
Theatre review
Summer vacation is rapidly
coming toa close and the Huron
County Library’s Summer Reading
program will soon be ending. This
year’s dinosaur theme has proven
very popular with younger library
patrons.
A special dinosaur craft work
shop will be presented by Marian
Doucette as one of the last special
library events of the summer.
Brontosaurus Brunch: A smorgas
bord of Dinosaur Delights will
entertain children with a collection
of dinosaur poems, jokes and
creative crafts.
Admission is limited to 20
children so get your ticket at your
local branch library right away to
avoid disappointment. A small
admission fee of 50 cents will be
charged towards the craft sup
plies.
Brontosaurus Brunch will be at
the Blyth Branch Library on
Thursday, August 18 at 3 p.m. and
at the Brussels Branch Library on
Tuesday, August 23 at 2 p.m.

The Soap' gets more outrageous
BY STEPHANIE, JENNY, CAROL
AND JERRY McDONNELL
What do a worm farm, mineral
water springs, a vault, a child
raised by wolves, an artists’
colony, identical twins, a professor
named after a tea, and the town of
Dinsley have in common? All were
part of the four part soap opera
performed by the Blyth Young
Company this summer.
The students ranged in age from
12 to 18. Parts 3 and 4 were directed
by Peter Smith and Hilary Black-
more. This group led the audience
through a melodramatic plot with
more twists than a serving of
spaghetti.
The essential ingredient was an
attempt to take over the town’s
mineral springs by “The Evil
Corporation’’. Then the large
audience from parts one and two
had to wait two agonizing weeks
before seeing the final two epi
sodes.
Miss Glynnis (Stephanie Lentz)
and Hal (Jake Chalmers) were
released two days after all air in the
vault had run out, but were still
alive and - suprrise - in love.
Having killed the good twin and
escaped her loveless marriage to
Moby, the bad twin was found
innocent by the jury. Spencer,
Cathy’s defence attorney, was
himself/herself a story, having
changed to a woman in part four.
Tbe Prosecuting attorney was
thwarted in this case, but not
without a hilarious courtroom
scene. Alison Dunn and Severn
Thompson were especially effec
tive as the battling attorneys.
The two K-Cathies (Becky Penn
and Christa Crawford) continued
to play their parts to the hilt while
Ian Morton demonstrated great
versitility in his dual roles of Moby
and “Jonas the Dowser’’. Bad
Cathy and the Dowser poisoned
each other, thereby leaving
Winona in a “jam”. She was the
daughter of Bad Cathy and the
previous Spencer the attorney, and
inherited everything.
We can only hope that the Young
Company will be back nextyear
with another exciting production!
