Parking lots ownership to be marked with signs While Mr. Willie was at the meeting councillors also com mended him on renovations to the exterior of the store. New signs clearly marking the main street parking lot as a municipal parking lot will be erected by Blyth village council after a complaint from a rival merchant that the presence of an advertising sign for one store makes some shoppers think it’s a private parking lot for that store. Al Willie of Blyth Supermarket -that Don Scrimgeour of the appeared before Blyth council Aug. 10 saying that some cus tomers are confused by the sign for the Knechtel’s supermarket think ing it indicates the parking lot is for customers of thatstore only. He asked that either the parking lot be marked to clearly indicate it was a municipal parking lot or that he be allowed to put up a sign too. He indicated, however, that he would be happy with the first course of action. Reeve Albert Wasson explained Knechtel’s store had approached council a couple of years ago asking permission to erect the sign because people travelling through Blyth often missed his store even when they were looking for a grocery storebecause itwasset back from the street at the rear of the parking lot. “ It is a mu nicipal parking lot and maybe it should be signed as such,” Reeve Wasson said. ‘‘It’s never been a problem for us (knowing it was a municipal lot) but we live here.” After Mr. Willie left the meeting council discussed the matter furth er with Councillor Lloyd Sippel saying he felt that Mr. Willie had a legitimate concern. When Mr. Scrimgeour had approached coun cil with his plan for the sign ‘‘it never crossed my mind that it could give the impression it’s Knechtel’s parking lot.” Council passed a motion to look into installing the municipal park ing lot signs at the entrances to the lot and also to investigate two other matters Mr. Willie brought up: that parallel parking signs along Drummond Street beside his store are now so faded they can’t be read and that parking lines on the street need to be repainted.
