Londesboro Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Burns UCW seeks cool of church basement Burns U.C.W. meeting was held on August 3 with 12 members present. It was decided to hold the meeting in the church basement rather thanat Renee Snells as it was so very hot. Gay Salverda was in charge and opened with a poem. A hymn was sung and Ida Salverda People Sympathy of the community is extended to Dave and Penny Overboe and family in the passing of Penny’s mother, the late Mrs. MacLeod of Bayfield. The sympathy of the comrtiunity is extended to Edwin and Hattie Woods and family in the passing of her brother the late Bert Gray of Clinton. Alf and Vera (Lyon) Bell and read the scripture and Ida Leiper led in prayer. Ramona had a reading as did Renee Snell. Gladys had a reading. Margaret Taylor gave a very interesting talk on her trip to Newfoundland and she also had several items topass around for members tosee. Reneethanked her. Collection was received then Renee took over the business part with roll call answered by a Bible verse. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and the treasur­ er’s report was given by Margaret Taylor. Correspondence was read. It was left with Josephine tocontact Kitty McGregor to buy the cookies for the last day of Bible School., The meeting closed with prayer. Lunch was served by Gay’s group. The next meeting is Hazel’s group. Providing some good old time entertainment for the people attending the Blyth Lions Club’s Family Picnic on Sunday, Aubrey Toll, [left], sings along with musicians Cheryl Cronin, Harvey McDowell and Wayne McClinchey. Both adults and children enjoyed fun and games at the park. daughter Heather of Prince Rupert, B.C. visited on Saturday evening at the home of Murray and Shirley Lyon and Deanna. Also present were Laura Lyon, Bert and Joanne Lyon and Edythe Beacom. Church news Greeter at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, August 7 was Mel Knox. Ushers were Bill Bromley and Rick Konarski. Next Sunday is Communion. Flowers were in memory of Mrs. Kay MacLeod of Bayfield, Penny Overboe’s mother. A Boy’s club for boys in Grades 5 and 6 will begin this Saturday, August 13. It will be from 2-4 p.m. at Scott’s pool. This will be a monthly meeting. Vacation Bible School August 15 - 19, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. A memorial service for Murray McNallwastobe held Tuesday, August 9 at 8 p.m. at Blyth United Church. The sermon topic was “Com­ passion First”. Obituary Continued from page 13 dent of the Huron County Fisher­ mans Association. She was the first woman to sit on the Ontario Fishery Advisory Council, the Lake Huron Management Committee and the Huron County Fishermans Asso­ ciation. She was born at Bridgeburg on August9,1930, the daughter of the late George Barnes and the former Leota Fitch. She married Donald McLeod who survives her. Also surviving are two daugh­ ters and two sons: Penny, and her husband David Overboe of Londes­ boro; Dawn DeJong and her friend Edward Fogerty of Bayfield; James Howlett and his wife Kim of Goderich; and John McLeod of Bayfield. She will be sadly missed by two special friends Patricia Tonks and Vivienne Hooper. Also surviving are three sisters: Ruth, Mrs. Jay Scott; Elaine, Mrs. Clifford Edwards; and Beverley, Mrs. Glen Burt, all of London; and two brothers, William Barnes of Ottawa and Robert Barnes of North Carolina. Seven grandchildren: Scott and Theresa Overboe, Royal and Abra DeJong, Danica Fogarty and Keith and Rebecca Howlett also survive. One son Daniel RichardMcLeodandone sister, Maqorie Roden predeceased her. The funeral service was held from the Ball and Falconer Funeral Home, Clinton on August 5, 1988 with Rev. Deborah Carter officiat­ ing. Cremation followed at Wood­ land Crematorium, London with burial of the ashes to take place at Bayfield Cemetery.
