Brussels Mite girls lose heart-breaker
Saturday, August6was the Mite
Girl Ball Tournament which was
held in Seaforth. The Brussels
team played three very exciting
games.
At 10 a.m. Brussels met the
Fordwichteam, defeating them
18-11.
The next challenge was Wing
ham at 3 p.m. During the season,
the Brussels team won one game
and lost one game to Wingham, so
this game was referred to as “the
rubber”. The coin was tossed,
Brussels won as home team. At the
end of the first inning Brussels had
gone through their batting order
with the score of 9-5. Second inning
Brussels was still ‘‘on a roll”
leading 16-5. Third inning score
was 16-6for Brussels. At the end of
the fourth, score Brussels 20,
Wingham 7. Each game was
limited to 50 minutes or five
innings. So the girls went back out

ball.
The next game was scheduled
for 5 p.m. against Atwood. In the
season, Atwood finished infirst
place while Brussels finished in
second spot.
The coin was tossed and Brus
sels came out as home team. At the
end of one complete inning the
score was tied at 6-6. Atwood
having next bat got three runs.
Brussels turn at bat scored four
runs. The score was Brussels 10,
Atwood 9. Third inning Brussels
had a double play, which sure
worried Atwood. At the end of this
inning Brussels was leading 12-9.
Butterflies, I think all the players,
coaches and even parents had. The
fourth inning was Atwood as they
scored nine runs while Brussels
scored four. The score at the end of
four innings was Atwood 18,
Brussels 16. Last inning Brussels
girls shut them down, three up and
three out. Brussels came to bat,
and scored one run with the game
ending Atwood 18, Brussels 17.
On behalf of the coaches, Wayne
Todd and Joyce Jacklin each and
everyone of the girls who partici
pated in the tournament, should be
congratulated. The girls showed
great ability in playing ball and real
sportsmanship.
Brussels Mite girls are: Kim
Mulvey, Jennifer Cayne, Stacey
Hahn, Sarah McArter, Janice
Jacklin, Tanya Smith, Amber
Ruttan, Shannon Conley, Holly
