Brussels council moves against properties Continued from page 1 against one homeowner who has failed to comply with repeated requests to clean up his property. Action against others may also be begun soon. Council has threatened action before but always stopped at threats, Councillor Ruth Sauve said, and now it was time to take things one step further. Mr. Hanly said it was a long drawn-out procedure to take action but if charges result, the property owner can be hit with fines of $500 per day for every day of non compliance. The property in question has been the source of complaints from neighbours because of unused vehicles and kitchen appliances. Another property which has a number of cars in various states of repair was als_o considered for action. “The zoning by-law clearly states whatyou can have on the property,’’ Mr. Hanly said. The property in question is zoned residential and “that definitely does not include a wrecking y ard. ” Both owners will be served with notice of the action being under taken under the property stan dards bylaw. ***** Council agreed to invite tenders on the paving of parts of John and Princess Streets and a small section of James Street to connect the current pavement with new sidewalks planned. Council agreed tobuild new sidewalks on one block ofJohnS reetand part of James Street to help prevent water running off the roadway onto private property in that area. If there is enough money left after the work is done a second block of John will be considered. ***** Councillors were informed that they can now sign registration forms to declare themselves can didates for the November munici pal elections. Nobody jumped at the chance. Councillor Sauve pointed out that the registration allowed people to go out and raise money for their election campaigns but she warned, tongue in cheek, that those who had more than $10,000 in donations had to have an auditor go over their books. “Oh shoot,” Reeve Workman said straight faced, “I’ll have to get a computer to make sure everybody gets a receipt (for their campaign dona tion)”.***** The Opportunity Tour which brings investors from Great Britain to look at investment opportunities in Huron and several other south western Ontario counties, will pay a quick visit to Brussels September 13. The visitors will geta quick bus tour of Brussels and get copies of the new Brussels, Morris and Grey Industrial brochures but council is becoming increasingly worried that the visitors will not see the roadway into the park and there is village’s industrial park. Currently no word yet of plans by the owners a building still sits on part of the to move it.
