Blyth Bantam girls keep hectic pace as playoffs approach Blyth Bantam girls have been on a hectic schedule in the last couple of weeks as they try to make up for games postponed earlier in the season. The night-after-night schedule has had mixed results. The girls avenged an earlier loss toListowel on July 21 when they scored seven times in the final inning to upset Listowel 12-11. Kim Medd went the distance striking out six. If that victory made the girls high, they came crashing down the very next night when Clinton humbled them 11-0 right in Blyth’s back yard. Lisa Beattie hit home runs in the first and fourth innings for Clinton. Blyth left 11 runners on base while Clinton stranded only 3. Blyth bounced back July 27, however, when they defeated Bel more 18-6 in Blyth. Kim Medd struck out four in the shortened five inning game and helped her own cause with a home run in the fifth. Belmore got itself in trouble by issuing 23 walks. Belmore got revenge the next night in Belmore as this time Blyth walked 16 runners and Belmore cashed them in for a 25-10 win. A home run by Krista Lawrie was wasted in the onslaught. Finally Friday night, July 29 Blyth won an exciting 13-11 win over Belgrave by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to break a tie. Kim Medd was at her best striking out 13 Belgrave batters. Blyth had taken an early lead with five runs in the first inning but Belgrave chipped away until, with four in the top of the seventh, they tied the game. The tag might have been there in time but the ball wasn’t as a Goderich Junior player tries to tag out a Brussels Tiger during action Sunday at the 18th annual Brussels Invitational Men’s Softball Tournament. While the Brussels player slides, the ball spins away [at left]. Things went well for the Tigers as they defeated Goderich 5-2.
