Huron Genealogical Branch plans meeting August 3 The Huron Genealogical Branch ofO.G.S.,willmeetat7:30p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Goderich Assessment Build­ ing in the Board room. The August meeting will see Janice Bonthron bring a report on her family history in Scotland. The July 6 meeting, the picnic in Maitland Cemetery was not too successful, on account of the heat, maybe next time will be better. LONDESBORO SLO-PITCH COMMITTEE WILL BE HOLDING A DANCE AT THE BLYTH & DISTRICT COMMUNITY CENTRE Kitty Wells Kitty Wells performs for Brussels Legion The legendary country and western superstar Kitty Wells will perform at the Wingham arena Thursday night in a special benefit performance for the Brussels Legion fire fund, sponsored by the Wingham Legion. Also appearing in the same concert are her husband Johnny Wright and their son Bobby Wright. Kitty Wells was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976 and has had 23 number one hit records. She has been called the undisputed ‘‘Queen of Country Music”. She met Johnny Wright when she was 16 and two years later they were married. The two, along with Jack Anglin, were instrumental in the early development of the ‘‘Louisiana Hayride” in Shreve­ port, Louisiana before moving on to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in 1952. Theirson Bobbyappeared for four years on the television series McHale’s Navy before turning to musicfor his career recording such hits as ‘‘Here I Go Again”, ‘‘Season’s in the Sun” and ‘‘Caroline’s Footsteps.” Tickets to the concert at $12 in advance and $15 at the door are available at Brussels Variety, Ernie King’s music in Wingham, the Wingham Legion and Triangle Discount stores throughout the area.
