Prime Minister visits Huron Thursday
Country Fair a success
Prime Minister Brian Mulroney
will officially open the $17 million
dollar expansion of the Goderich
harbour Thursday morning at 10
a.m.
After arriving from Ottawa at
Goderich airport, Mr. Mulroney
and his family will travel to the
harbour to open the recently-
completed project. The work done
at the harbour includes dredging of
the harbour to seaway depth,
construction of a 200-metre, con
crete caisson wharf and a new
breakwater. The new facilities are
on the north side of the original
harbour, north of the salt mines.
Following the opening the Prime
Minister along with Mila and their
children Caroline, Benedict, Mark
and Nicolas will attend a family
luncheon at Goderich airport be
ginning at 11:45. The event is
hosted by Murray Cardiff MP for
Huron-Bruce and his wife Betty.
Admission to the event is free and
those attending should bring lawn
chairs. There will be food available
for those who wish it at a cost of $5
for adults and $3 for children.
This is not a fundraising event as
incorrectly reported in last week’s
Citizen. A party official stressed
the charge involved only covers the
cost of the food.
The Prime Minister will fly out of
Goderich at 2 p.m.
Intermittent rain and cloudy
skies weren’t enough to daunt the
spirits of the happy throngs
enjoying themselves at the 1988
Blyth Festival Country Fair on
Saturday, which saw more than
$1,400 raised toward the capital
fund.
Festival board members and
company members were out in
force to help make the day a
success; doing everything from
telling fortunes to cooking hot dogs
to overseeing the Flea Market,
while Friends of the Festival
provided home-baked goodies for
the food booths, helped keep
things on schedule, and even
volunteered at the ever-popular
dunking tank.
Other company members, as
well as the members of the Young
Company, were featured at the
