Bruce Hahn and Gertie Kellington took their oaths of office. Woman wins contest Mrs. Marina Apel of Brussels is the winner this week of the Big Value contest in The Citizen. Mrs. Apel spotted the Big Value symbol in the Howson and Howson advertisement in last week’s Citi­ zen. She filled in the ballot, entered it in the draw and had the first coupon drawn with the correct answer. She wins a $20 gift certificate from Walsh’s Corner Cafe in Blyth. The prize for the coming week is a pair of Tender Tootsies from The Fashion Boutique in Brussels. If stored vegetables get too soft to cook but aren’t rotten, mix them in a blender with a little water, pour into a ice-cube tray and freeze. These vegetable cubes add won­ derful flavour to soups, stews and sauces. The Brussels Firemen once again held a successful breakfastat the park on Sunday with all proceeds going to Muscular Dys­ trophy. Mr. and Mrs. Don Edgar of RR 1, Alienford visited with Mrs. Winni- fred Edgar, Mrs. Jean Higgins and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higgins on the weekend, they also visited with Alvie in the hospital. Happy Birthday to Millie Mc­ Farlane of Callander Nursing Home who was treated to supper by her nieces and nephews. Congratulations to Darlene Freeman and Todd Wheeler who were married on Saturday. Barbara Elliott and friend of Kitchener spent the weekend visiting her mother Mrs. Mel Jacklin. Also visiting Mr. and Mrs. Mel Jacklin was Murray Jacklin of Camp Borden, son of Mr. Mel Jacklin. The Reverend Ken, Carole, Troy and Ryan Innes spent Saturday night at the home of Ken’s cousin Miss Ethel Dennis, Seaforth. Sunday afternoon, they visited at different homes in the village. They were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Krauter. John and Scott Raven, have returned to their home in Irricana, Alta., after a two-week visit with their grandmother, Jean Bewley, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Mary Yuill. Other visitors during the two weeks were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Baker, Kevin, Mark, Ste­ phen, and Matthew of Bolton. The local TV station, channel 17, will be showing an interview with Scott Pawson July 27 and 28 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Miller returned home on Friday after spending 13 days in Calgary visiting with their daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Duane Laferte. While there they attended the Stampede and visited Jasper Provincial Park and Columbia Icefields. The congregation of Melville Presbyterian Church celebrated its anniversary Sunday, July 24 with former minister, the Reverend Ken Innes, St. John’s Church, Winnipeg, giving the message. He was assisted by the Interim Moderator, the Reverend David Nicholson, Goderich. Music was provided by Mrs. Joanne King, organist and choir leader, assisted by Mrs. Karen Cardiff, pianist. The choir, assist­ ed by Mr. Pat Hoffman on trumpet, sang “God of our Fathers”. The male chorus sang, “Joy, Real Joy” and guest soloist, Don McDonald sang“TheHolyCity” and “My God Loves Me”. The Reverend Innes’ well illu­ strated message told worshippers to let Christ be a large part of their lives and to let him be the guide in shaping our world. After the service, the Reverend Nicholson, assisted by the Reve­ rend Innes, dedicated the new doorsonthefrontof the church. The doors were purchased by the Memorial Fund of the Church. Lunch was served in the base­ ment where Ken, Carole, Troy and Ryan visited with their Brussels and Belgrave friends.
