Brussels proved to be a lucky one
on Saturday night as the pair held

No firm estimate of the costs to
replace the 23-year-old building
and its contents have been pinned
down to date, but Mrs. Burkholder
said that one estimate had set the
replacement value at $147,000 just
toadhereto provincial fire code
standards, with no estimate to
cover the contents. She added that
a Kitchener firm had also come in
with an estimate of $ 13,000 to cover
clean-up costs of smoke-damaged
items that can be saved, as well as
for treatment of interior walls to
remove the smell of smoke.
Original estimates of replace
ment costs had ranged from
$150,000 to $200,000 to put the
building back into use. Police have
charged two former Brussels
residents jointly with one count of
break, enter and theft and one*
count of arson in connection with
the fire that kept Brussels Volun
teer Firemen on the scene for more
than five hours.
More than 50 people attended
Monday night’s meeting at the
Brussels Legion, with some mem-
one, which was drawn at about 11
p.m., during a dance intermission.
Neither Tim nor Kim were present
to receive their prize, Mr. Thomas
said, adding that he expected the
news wasn’t long in reaching the
lucky pair.
Second prize winners of the
evening were Ross and Mary
Procter of RR 5, Brussels, whose
name came up on the 499th ticket
drawn for $500; while Neil McGa-
bers of other branches from as far
away as Mississauga in atten
dance. All 12 Royal Canadian
Legion branches in Zone C-l have
pledged their support in either
manpower or financial help, Mrs.
Burkholder said, while the Wing
ham Legion, Branch 180, has
pledged to turn over the entire
profit from a Kitty Wellsconcert, to
be held there July 28, to the
Brussels Legion Fire Fund.
With ticket prices set at $12 and
$15, the concert is expected to be a
sell-out as fans flock to see and hear
