Morris building permits total $400,000 so far in 1988 Business & Professional The June 21 meeting of Morris T ownship council was one of the shortest in recent months, dealing mainly with matters of a house keeping nature. Building permits were approved for Ralph Darlow for the construc tion of a residence in Bluevale, and for Norman Wattam for the construction of a storage building at Lot 5, Concession 3, bringing to $400,000 the total value of building permits issued in the township for the first six months of 1988. In addition, council approved a permit for the demolition of a barn at Antade Farms, Lot 12, Conces sion 6, and approved a permit to George Michie to excavate gravel from a pit at Lot 6, Concession 6, providing the area be rehabilitated following the excavation. A motion was passed to provide for the installation of a sidewalk on the south side of Brandon Street in Belgrave, following the recon struction and paving of the street, and the installation of a storm sewer Councillor Howie Morton advis ed that he, along with Wingham reeve Bruce Machan and engineer Andy McBride, had visited Jim English at Lot 3, Concession 1, to discuss the route of the Blackhall drain through the English proper ty, to service the Wingham drain near Highway 4. Councillor Mor ton told council that Mr. English was not in favour of the plan unless he receives compensation; no further action was taken at the time. In other drainage matters, coun cil accepted a petition from Bodmin Ltd. for the repair of the McNeil drain at Lot 11, Concession 5. Council also granted an extension to July 21 to Maitland Engineering to finalize the report on the Nichol Drain, Branch A. Drainage superintendent Gary Nicholson was directed to investi gate the need for repairs for the Little Drain, and to report back to council. In other business, council was informed that the enumerator for the upcoming municipal election had been appointed from outside the township because no one from Morris had applied for the posi tion. Council agreed with the Bly th Recreation Centre’s plan to pur chase a new condenser for the ice plant at the arena; it also approved of the proposal to purchase tables for the Women’s Institute hall in Belgrave. Finally, council reviewed the township’s draft budget for 1988 and made revisions; the final draft will be presented in July. The next meeting of Morris Township coun cil was scheduled for July 5.
