Local teachers on the move for new school year
Staff adjustments at local
schools have been announced by
the Huron County Board of
Education, to take effect next
September in most cases.
Blyth Public School may lose a
half-position come September de
pending on the final enrollment in
kindergarten. Mary Buffinga had
been a full-time kindergarten
teacher last year because of the
large enrollment in her class. For
1988-89 enrollment is teetering on
the size where it could mean either
a full-time or a half-time position.
Brussels Public School’s teach
ing staff strength will be up by one
half-time teacher, and there will be
a number of other changes at the
school in September. Resource
teacher Phil Parsons has been
named president of the Ontario
Public School Teachers' Federa
tion - Huron Division for 1988-89.
and his duties there mean that he
will only be able to teach half-time
at Brussels. Kindergarten teacher
Lynne Henry will go from her
present half-time position to the
full-time position of Kindergarten
teacher, owing to the rise in the
class enrollment.
Brussels Public School’s French
teacher Gabrielle Boettcher will
resign at the end of June, to be
replaced by Margriet Knetsch
from Brookside School, who will
teach French half-time and aGrade
4class half-time. Miss Knetsch
will be married over the summer,
and will be Mrs. Mason by next
September.
Brussels school secretary Isobel
Prior said thatthe school has still to
hire an additional half-time teach
er, although nobody has been
named to the position yet.
The largest number of changes
will take place at East Wawanosh
Public School, where staff size will
increase by two full-time teachers;
there are a number of other
changes in teaching staff as well.
Grade 6-7 teacher Al Harrison has
been promoted and will be going to
Howick Central Public School as
acting vice-principal. Full-time
teacher Sandra Simpson will also
be moving to Howick P.S.; half
time teacher Brent Boyer is
transferring to Wingham Public
School; and Kindergarten teacher
Jane Wilson will go from half-time
tofull time, to accommodate the 29
youngsters registered for Kinder
garten in September.
Kim Dodds from Clinton Public
School will be coming to East
Wawanosh, as will Dave Bartlett
from Seaforth Public School; each
will teach Grade 7-8 on a half-time
basis, sharing the position of
resource teacher for the other half
time. In addition, former teacher
Nancy Daer will be returning to a
full-time position after a year’s
leave of absence; and a teacher just
out of London teacher’s college,
Elizabeth Thorpe, will be coming
on staff full-time.
Grey Central Public School’s
teaching staff will also increase by
one, with Melody Bailey coming in
from Howick Central to teach a
combined Grade 4-5 class. In
addition, half-time teacher Freda
Crawford will retire at the end of
June, while Marie Parsons, who
has been on staff half-time over the
past year while she served as
president of the Ontario Public
School Women Teachers’ Federa
tion - Huron Division, will be
returning to a full-time position as
the school’s resource teacher.
At HullettCentral Public School,
Grade 6 teacher Rosemarie Weise
will be leaving to go to Hensall
Public School, and Kindergarten
teacher Brenda Pincombe has
been transferred to Wingham
Public School. A spokesmanfor the
school said that one or more
teachers will be coming on staff in
September, although no appoint
ments had been confirmed at press
time. AlsoatHullett, music and
library teacher Peter Snell has
completed his probationary peri
od, and has been granted a
permanent contract by the Huron
County Board of Education.
At Walton Public School, Vice
Principal Al Sygrove will be
moving to the same position at
Seaforth Public School, to be
replaced by Louise Wilson, who
moves into the vice-principal’s
chair from Wingham Public
School. As well, teaching assistant
Sharon Nivins leaves Walton for a
similar position at Victoria Public
School in Goderich, with no
replacement yet named for Wal
ton.
Not to be outdone by all the Kindergarten and Grade 8 graduations
taking place at the local schools recently, the top dogs of Huron County
