New owners making changes to grocery store Snell’s Grocery Limited in down town Blyth is taking on a bright new look as new owner-operators Alli- ster and Dianna Willie spent their first full day on their own on Monday. Both have worked with former owners Harvey and Deanna in Blyth, and will operate it under the name of Blyth Supermarket. Pausing during their first day on their own in the new business, are (from left] Dianna, Bridget, Kendra and Al Willie. Snell for the past month, preparing for the takeover. The most visible changes to the premises have been made by the installation of gleaming white siding to the exterior, while a door and a large window, both looking out on Queen Street, have been re-opened to provide a cheery change to the interior of the store. The new business will operate under the name of Blyth Super market, starting immediately. “But we will be keeping up the same friendly, courteous service the Snells have always extended to their customers,” Mr. Willie said. “Wejusthope people will bear with us as we go through these changes inside and out.” Al and Dianna are being helped in their new store by daughter Bridget, who has just graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and by daughter Kendra, who will be going into Grade 4 at Blyth Public School next September. The family’s only son, Aaron, is a passenger agent at Wardair in Toronto. The Willies are well-known in the area, since Al was born and raised in Teeswater, while Di anna’s family purchased a farm there and operated it for a few years prior to the couple’s marri age in 1963. Both Al and Dianna have had many years in the grocery and service industries, having served in various capacities and for various companies in Preston, Ontario, Sussex, New Brunswick, and most recently in the Cam bridge area. Al began his new career in Blyth by winding up his career as a sales manager for the national company G.E. Barbour Foods with two weeks’ holidays, which he spent working along with the Snells toward the takeover of Blyth’s oldest grocery store. “We know we are going to like it here,”Diannasaid. ‘‘We’re al ways running into people who knew Al back in his days at Teeswater High School, anditfeels just as if we’ve come home.” A grand opening for the new business will take place once all renovations are completed, likely in September, the Willies said.
