Brussels Public School
Valedictory address
Move to Brussels was exciting for student
BY HOLLY DAUPHIN
Life is full of so many wonderful
things with several different roads
to take, and tonight, we are at a
crossroad; the Grade 8 Graduation
of 1988.
As 1 stand here tonight, I think of
the last nine years of my education,
and how quickly they have gone

by. I can still re memberthe first
day of school with my lun ch box,
and being walked out to meet the
friendly bus driver at the end of the
lane.
Until twoyearsago, we lived on a
farm at RR 2, Lucknow, where I
went to school at Brookside Public
School, which is located between
Lucknow and Dungannon. Most of
the students from the school lived
in the country. 1 enjoyed going to
school at Brookside and thought
my world would end when our
family decided to move to Brus
sels. “How would I ever be able to
make new friends? How would I
find my way around? What about
all those new teachers? The
thoughts were scary, but time went
on.
We moved to Brussels three
days before school started, and
before I knew it, it was the first day
of school. A11 my fears soon came to
an end. Sb many new friends, such
nice teachers. What a school!
HOLLY DAUPHIN
Life in Brussels is quite different
from living on a farm.

each day (that means a half an hour
more sleep each morning).
•2. No more taking a lunch to
school. And
•3. No more smelly barn clothes!
But no matter which school you
go to we always have those
valuable one-on-ones with our
teachers. Oh what patience they
have. The way we have learned to
work and play with our fellow
classmates. The way we have
learned to accept responsibilities.
We are so very fortunate in these
wonderful schools. However, as
graduates we remember our tea
chers in different ways. I’ve made
up a quiz. Can you remember these
special individuals.
“You’ve got 8 math questions to
doin lOminutes”, healwayswould
say. This teacher gave us lots of
math homework, but we all know it
wasworthitin theend. Weallknow
him as Mr. Axtmann.
This teacher brought Instru
mental Music to our school, and
included us in sporting events as
well as the trips to the ski lodge at
Talisman. Who tries to imitate a
