Brussels Public School Valedictory address Move to Brussels was exciting for student BY HOLLY DAUPHIN Life is full of so many wonderful things with several different roads to take, and tonight, we are at a crossroad; the Grade 8 Graduation of 1988. As 1 stand here tonight, I think of the last nine years of my education, and how quickly they have gone The 1988 Grade 8 class of the Brussels Public School includes: [front row, left to right] Bobbi Jo Rutledge, Tammy Rose, Heather McDonald, Michelle Machan; [second row] Elizabeth Harris, David Jacklin, Nicki Gropp, Ken Graber, Holly Dauphin, Paul Kitchen, Natasha McDonald; [third row] Phil Parsons, teacher, Gabriele Boettcher, teacher, Devon Henry, Ross Machan, Andrew Perrie, Doreen Raymond, teacher, Jim Axtmann, principal; [back row] Krista Hastings, Danielle Cardiff, Sharie Jacklin, Robyn Somers, Aaron Cardiff and John Albert. by. I can still re memberthe first day of school with my lun ch box, and being walked out to meet the friendly bus driver at the end of the lane. Until twoyearsago, we lived on a farm at RR 2, Lucknow, where I went to school at Brookside Public School, which is located between Lucknow and Dungannon. Most of the students from the school lived in the country. 1 enjoyed going to school at Brookside and thought my world would end when our family decided to move to Brus­ sels. “How would I ever be able to make new friends? How would I find my way around? What about all those new teachers? The thoughts were scary, but time went on. We moved to Brussels three days before school started, and before I knew it, it was the first day of school. A11 my fears soon came to an end. Sb many new friends, such nice teachers. What a school! HOLLY DAUPHIN Life in Brussels is quite different from living on a farm. • 1. No more hour long bus rides each day (that means a half an hour more sleep each morning). •2. No more taking a lunch to school. And •3. No more smelly barn clothes! But no matter which school you go to we always have those valuable one-on-ones with our teachers. Oh what patience they have. The way we have learned to work and play with our fellow classmates. The way we have learned to accept responsibilities. We are so very fortunate in these wonderful schools. However, as graduates we remember our tea­ chers in different ways. I’ve made up a quiz. Can you remember these special individuals. “You’ve got 8 math questions to doin lOminutes”, healwayswould say. This teacher gave us lots of math homework, but we all know it wasworthitin theend. Weallknow him as Mr. Axtmann. This teacher brought Instru­ mental Music to our school, and included us in sporting events as well as the trips to the ski lodge at Talisman.
