SIERTSEMA James A. Slertsema of RR 1, Auburn graduated on May 20,1988 from the Ridgetown College of Agricultural Technology, with a diploma in Agricultural Production and Management. Jim is the son of Siebolt and Annie Slertsema. He is presently farming with his par­ ents. Junioj choir holds party The Junior Choir of Knox United Church held their year end party on Friday night, June 24. They enjoyed swimming at the Vanastra pool and then returned to the church where refreshments were served by Barb Bakker, Karen Webster and Bernice Gross. Baptism held at Auburn church Leadership UCW theme “Leadership” was the theme of the June meeting for Auburn United Church Women. Mrs. Brian Hallamwas incharge assisted by Mrs. Dorothy Grange and Mrs. Bob Worsell. The life story of Moses and Aron’s sister “Miriam” was traced, showing her role as a leader to the Jewish people. She was a prophetess and is still revered by the Jewish nation. Bible portions were read from Isaiah, Numbers and Miri­ am’s song. There was a contest on famous Canadian women, and a poster made listing the moral characteris­ tics these woman had that made YOU'LL LOVE OUR GREAT SELECTION OF OVER 600 MOVIES ALSO AVAILABLE CAMPING SUPPLIES a FRESH VEGETABLES YES,WEARE NOW WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held at the Community Hall on Tuesday, June 21 at 8 p.m. The president Mrs. Don Cart­ wright welcomed all and the meeting opened with Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. The treasur­ er's report was given by Kay Lapp. An invitation was received for members tojoin in to help Len and Betty Archambault celebrate their 40th anniversary on Saturday, July 2 at9 p.m. at the Community Hall, Auburn. The president stated that there would be a Quilt Show and display to be held August 19 to September 5 at Goderich. Quilts should be in by August 1 to 15 for display. Mrs. Cartwright introduced Deb Campbell who gave a Microwave Demonstration, safety hints, do’s and don’ts of a microwave. She made several dishes, cake and dips, etc. This was very interest­ ing. Erma thanked Deb and she said she had never been in Auburn before. Betty Archambaultpre- sented Deb with a gift. Draws were made and prizes went to Eppie Lawrence, Betty Archambault, Madeline Burchill, Martha Daer, Jane Giousher, Mildred Lawlor and Isabelle Turn­ er. President, Mrs. Dana Bean conducted the business portions of the meeting and received various reports. Requests were made for used nylons - and also for any household articles to assist a family at Huron Park. The U.C.W. appreciate the wall hanging made by Mrs. Darlene Empey and will reimburse her for work and expenses. A donation will be sent for “United Church Leadership” of young people. Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the morning service at Knox United Church which began with a hymn sing with Lori Millian as pianist. Call to Worship was read alternately followed by hymn, “Thou Whose Almighty Word.” Rev. Snihur gave a reading “One Solitary Life”, followed by Prayer of Approach. The announcements were given. The sacrament of Infant Baptism for Joshua Howard Brennan, son of People around Auburn area Mrs. Roy Cope of London visited recently with her cousin Marjorie McDougall. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson spent a few days last week with their son William of Newmarket. Young people of Knox United Church are reminded not to miss the “Fun Day”, Tuesday, August 9 from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. For pre-registration call Margo Mid- delkam at 529-7785. There will be no church service at Knox United Church on July 10, 17, 24 or 31. Congratulations toTerry and Sherry Foran on the birth of a daughter Kaleigh Jeanine. A new granddaughter for Lawrence and Jim and Sandra Brennan, was held. The children’s song was “God Is So Good” and a story told by Rev. Snihur. Hymn “My Jesus I Love Thee” was sung. Rev. Snihurread scriptures from Luke and Corinthians followed by Prayer Chorus “Turn your eyes upon Jesus”. The senior choir sang two numbers under the direction of pianist Lori Millian. Rev. Snihur’s sermon was entitled, Jean Plaetzer of RR 1, Auburn and Mr. John Foran of RR 2, Auburn. Ball’s Cemetery Service will be held Sunday, July 3 at 3 p.m. Rev. Pat Nunn of St. Mark’s Anglican Church will be the speaker. The hymn, “My faith has found a resting place,” was sung. The minister pronounced the benediction and Benediction Re­ sponse, “Now thank we all our God” ended the service. Pastor and Mrs. Carne attended the graduation of their grandson Dus­ tin Mater of Wainfleet, Ont.
