LisaBromleytop Blyth student Blyth Christian Reformed Church Lisa Bromley hasbeen named the top academic student at the Blyth Public School, graduating with an overall mark of 90.8 per cent to win the Proficiency Award, which was presented by Mary Lou Stewart and Donna Govier on behalfof the Blyth Legion. She was also class valedictorian. In addition, Lisa won the awards as the top student in both English and Social Studies, capturing the Blyth Senior Citizens’ trophy and the Sparling Award respectively. She was also presented with a bar for her showing in the school science fair earlier this year. National Science Fair award winner Tammi Medd was present­ ed with the greatest number of individual awards at her school’s Grade 8 Graduation Exercises, winningsixoverall, Tammi was recognized as having the second- highest average with an overall mark of 88.2 per cent; she received the top prize for both the Science Fair and for Public Speaking; took the Blyth Veterinary Clinic Award in Science; and tied for the school’s Conservation Award as well as for the title of Top Female Athlete of 1987-88. Laurie Wharton tied with Tammi for the title of Top Female Athlete, won the Family Studies Award, tied for the Music Media, received a bar for her Science Fair project and a pen for achieving an overall average mark of 81.4 per cent in the Over-80 Club. Kevin Souch was named as the school’s Top Male Athlete, tied for second place in Public Speaking, and was a winner in the Over-80 Club, attaining an overall average of 80.7 per cent throughout the year. Karli Yanchus, the final member of the Over-80 Club with an overall Julie Howson to help at camp Julie Howson of Blyth will be a companion at a unique summer camp for one week this summer. Julie will be helping out at Camp Quality, a camp in the Durham area which will provide a camping experience for children from Ontario with life-threatening forms of cancer. Camp Quality is a non-profit, all-volunteer organiza­ tion sponsored by the Ontario Region Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The camp combines the required health care with the opportunity for children to be children again. average of 81.7 per cent, was also the winner of the Lawrie Decorat­ ing Art Award, a book presented by John Battye. Debbie Logue was the winner of the Royal Homes Industrial Arts Award, tied for second place in both the Conservation and Drama Awards, and received a prize for Academic Improvement. Rhonda Stadelmann was anoth­ er multiple winner; she was the winner of the Teen Scene Citizen­ ship Trophy, tied for second place in Public Speaking, and also Blyth. People Trevor Vodden of Calgary visit­ ed this past week with his grandmother Myrtle Vodden and other relatives and friends in the area. Collections at the recent Royal Canadian Legion Decoration Day Service at Blyth Cemetery amoun­ ted to $175. After expenses of $45, the remaining $130 was donated to the Cemetery. And last but not least, Jason Lee was the winner of the 1987-88 Congeniality Award, which was presented by Cenetta Bainton. They also had a surprise birthday party for Dorothy at Triple K Restaurant. Tuesday evening some friends came and surprised Dorothy on her birthday and had a nice evening playing cards. Janice and Julie Daer visited on Sunday with grandparents Bert and Dorothy Daer. The June meeting of the Blyth Swinging Seniors was a visit to Huronview. Twenty-four members enjoyed an excellent meal. This was followedby a much appreciated program.
