I Minister's Study Service A choice of ways i BY REV. LORENZO RAMIREZ BLYTH UNITED CHURCH I would like to share with you, our Lord’s parable of the sower (Mark 4: 1-20) my favourite parable, and hopefully reflect on our faith as individuals and as a church and community of the faithful. The topic that I choose is a “A Choice of Ways’ ’ because it tells so much of our time when our choice of things and ideas seems unlimited and unending: i.e. (1) “washing detergent’’: Sunlight, Fab, Tide, ABC, store-brand and no-name brand’ ’ some promise the best wash, others as good if not better; (2) “Toothpaste” - This promises excellent results from straight “cavity fighting” to good high mark, to straight “sex appeal”; (3) Farming - chemical or organic fertilizing - variety of seeds and farm equipments. Our Lord Jesus, in his time and generation also did make a choice and chose his way of life. There must have been a good selection to choose from, but He chose to sow the word of God to the people of his time and ours, a choice that we in the Christian Church must choose - orwe will miss the boat, and the trail, in time, for our children’s children will fade and will never be known. This parable, we know as the “Parable of the Sower” is in many ways, a biographical life of the Master himself. Itis a picture of his experiences in life, His encounters with all people in all walks of life. There must have been lots of discouraging and many times, trying situations that could have been a great reason or alibi for him to backout and quit. But He went on, He kept on sowing the word of God, kept on doing it, even to the last of his human breath - His death on the cross. One point to note is that, with all these realistic understandings of the various responses or lack of it; with all these looking squarely at the worstthatcan happentothe seed which is the Word - Jesus went and kept on teaching. The yield of the good soil, no matter in what proportion to the seed lost on unreceptive hearers, abundantly warrants the Sower’s faith and venture. Jesus chose the way that His Father would be pleased and his disciples would find meaning and life. He gave great priority to God’s Kingdom than the kingdom of this world. He chose The Way. •Fresh Meat •FreezerOrders •Custom Butchering byappointment Call Brussels887-6294 BLAKE Septic Tank Fast Efficient24 Hour Service CALL RAY 887-6800 McKILLOP MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY 91 Main St. South, Seaforth Office 527-0400 FARM, HOME, COMMERCIAL AUTO COVERAGES AGENTS Graeme Craig 887-9381 Bob McNaughton 527-1571 Donald Taylor 482-9976 Banter & MacEwan Insurance Brokers Ltd. 524-8376 John Wise Insurance Brokers Ltd. 482-3401 Fred Lawrence Electric Ltd.
