Morris Township plans new sidewalks in Walton Morris Township council has applied to the Ministry of Trans port and Communication for per mission to apply the entire grant of $7,000 recently approved by the ministry, to the construction of sidewalks in the hamlet of Walton, rather than split it between Walton and Belgrave. The grant, representing 50 per cent of the costs of sidewalk construction, was approved on the basis that $3,200 of it would be spent in Belgrave, with the remaining $3,800 earmarked for Walton. But at its June 7 meeting, council passed a motion that the transfer be requested on the grounds that any work done in Belgrave this year may have to be torn up in 1990 to conform with the reconstruction of Highway 4, promised for that year. If approval for the transfer is granted, Morris clerk-treasurer Nancy Michie said that sidewalk construction in Walton could begin almost immediately. At the same meeting, council was advised by the MTC that it had re-submitted a request for supple mentary subsidy funds for the reconstruction of Brown’s Bridge atLot 10-11, Concession 9, and advised that Morris proceed with the final plans a design criteria for the structure. Again, if funding is approved, Mrs. Michie says that work will be undertaken this summer. An agreement between Morris Township and James and Jean McNeil of Brussels has been finalized after several months of negotiation, clearing the way for a public road allowance to be constructed atChestnut Street, providing access to the old Brus sels Fairgrounds from County Road 12. Documents are now in the hands of both party’s lawyers for consideration. Council also met with Allan Bridge of Bridge Motors at Lots 7 and 8, Concession 1, to discuss access to the lots according to an agreement drawn up in 1981. The matter will likely proceed to a public roadway drawn to MTC standards. In other business, council has accepted a quote from Pollard Bros. Calcium Ltd. of Harrow to supply calcium chloride for town ship roads at $236.32 per flake metric tonne. To date, only a light application of the chemical has been used due to the dry condi tions. Council was advised of both county and school board levies for 1988, and will be ready to examine the township’s draft budget at the July 5 meeting. It was also advised that township auditor John Jeffery has sold his business, and a motion was passed to invite new tenders for the position. Several councillors objected to the fact that a non-resident of Morris Twp. has been appointed as enumerator for the upcoming municipal election, and it was agreed that Mrs. Michie would contact the county assessment office for an explanation. Road superintendent Lloyd Michie advised council that “road under construction’’ signs are being placed on township roads where gravel is being hauled in order to avoid weight limit viola tions for the contractors hauling gravel. The following building permits were approved following a recom mendation from chief building official Leo Sanders: to Kornelius Reinink at Lot 27, Cone. 7 for a sun deck; to Pierre Rammeloo at Lot 6, Cone. 9 for an addition to a barn; to Jim Blake at Lot 27, Cone. 8 for an addition to his dairy barn and for a manure tank; to Florence McArter of Belgrave for a sun deck; and to Robert Ivor of Lot 4, Cone. 2 for an enclosed porch. In addition, Mr. Sanders report ed that he had met with Carl Martin atLot 19, Cone. 1 todiscuss manure storage at the site; adequate storage is now under investigation. Council discussed an application from Creg Duck of Ducky’s Repair at Lot 1, Cone. 4 for an amendment to the zoning by-law to permit the placement of a mobile home on the lot. Subject to certain conditions, the date of July 5 was set for a public meeting to hear the applica tion. Council also approved an appli cation from Kornelius and Hilda Reinink for an amendment to the by-law governed by the Huron County Trees Act, to permit the clearing of one and one-half acres of bush on Lot 27, Cone. 7. Approval was granted for the To take the kinks out of yarn, stick a long needle through the ball and steam for a few moments over a boiling tea kettle.
